Winter Wonderland [Event]

”Good Morning passengers. Today is day Twenty Four of the month of Catfish. You may wish to look out of the window.”

As passengers wake in their beds they will indeed notice something different about the light. If they look out of the window, instead of the ever changing void they will see white slopes of mountains, flakes of snow alling down around them and frost covered trees zipping past the windows. If they glance at the ICP on the table they will see a message.

Investigating the dressing cart they will find the drawers and cupboards unlocked once again. However, instead of the fantasy-esque clothing of world #25768 they will find thick winter coats, hats, gloves and scarves. There are heavy fur lined boots and even some ice skates.

Entering the garden carriage they will see that the glass dome of the roof has opened, leaving the carriage exposed to a bright blue sky. Any nonsense of the past few weeks has vanished, leaving the carriage pristine. Not that that is easy to notice as it is covered in a thick layer of snow. The paths are clearer, a light dusting of snow but easy to talk through. Around the paths the drifts are high, perfect for snowman building or a snowball fight.

The streams and the pond in the centre are solid ice. Anyone brave enough to try to find the ice holds their weight for ice skating.

And the ICP message was correct. There is hot chocolate in the stores.

It doesn't take much for Ple Two's expression to drop back into typical, mildly defensive neutrality. "My only time on Earth was spent in warmer climates, and we don't let it snow in spaces like this back home." She's not playing, just experimenting. "It seems like it could be troublesome."

"I know that feeling well." Nerdanel nods, making her way over. "Tirion gets no more than the barest dusting, on the coldest winters. It can be, I am given to understand! But I have never seen more than a light snowfall."

"This would certainly impede travel... even a light amount could make surfaces slick." You don't want to see a mecha slip and fall. "...but when it's not in the way, it is pleasant enough."

[marriedanidiot]

"That much is true! But if you're careful and salt the roads properly, it's not so bad, I'm given to understand. At least, that's how Elrond tells me they dealt with it in Imladris, which gets far more snow than Tirion!"

She smiles, looking out. "Yes. It gives the world a whole new look, doesn't it?"

[pleple]

"Salt... to change the melting point..." That makes sense at least. "It's white. Very clean, for now. Cold."

[marriedanidiot]

"Exactly!" She smiles and nods. "For now, yes. I imagine it might not remain so, with everyone playing!"

[pleple]

"And dirt will get mixed into it, it will be piled up or melted..." but for the moment, still beautiful. "Like everything else really."

[marriedanidiot]

"Even so. It will not be pristine, any longer. But then, dirt has it's own beauty, in it's own way, for it shows that a thing has been used."

[pleple]

"Used... well worn. Important and useful." A glistening, brand new spacecraft is beautiful, but one that's been through its paces is often more trustworthy - or at least predictable. It's the easiest comparison for her.

[marriedanidiot]

"And well-loved." Nerdanel nods. "There's beauty in that too, I think!"

[pleple]

"Mm. Nothing lasts forever, after all..." At all, in the grand scheme of things.

[marriedanidiot]

"Some things endure." She nods. "But all things physical will wear, in time."

[pleple]

"Even the stars fade. Ideas and concepts, perhaps, will last. ...everything else, including our bodies..."

[marriedanidiot]

"Yes." She smiles at her. "There is beauty in ephemerality - and snow is one of the best examples of that."

[pleple]

"Here one day, melted or dirty the next." ...well at least she's definitely going to last longer than snow.

[marriedanidiot]

"Until the next snowfall." She nods. "And again, and again, until spring comes."

[pleple]

"And then the next year, and on, and on?" While we all get older.

[marriedanidiot]

"Tenn' ambar metta - Until the World ends, as my people would say." Nerdanel nods. "The cycle of the seasons goes on."

[pleple]

"...making all the same mistakes, all along." That part is sobering. "Where I come from people seem not to learn."

[marriedanidiot]

"Sometimes." She agrees. "But not always. People can change - it just... might take a while."

She may, or may not, be specifically referencing her husband, at this point.

[pleple]

"Then they need to do better at passing those lessons on." Otherwise nothing will change...

[marriedanidiot]

Nerdanel reflects on the bitter lessons her husband's exile has taught and smiles sadly.

"Sometimes they are. There's no way of knowing."

[pleple]

"Then some people might very well have a worthwhile future." In her own world... would she have any?

[marriedanidiot]

"One must hope so! But there's no predicting people, I think."

[pleple]

"There's hardly anywhere for this to go while we're here anyways, though."
