He chuckled finding the story delightful. "Did he actually admit he was lost or did you have to figure it out yourself?" He would be very surprised if the man would own up to anything that would hint at a weakness. The only exception he could see is if the man saw a beautiful red-haired woman and needed a reason to talk to her. "Do you mean he was wanting someone to take him on as an apprentice or he was wanting an apprentice?" He asked, a bit unclear given their cultural differences.

She says, amused.
"No, no, he would not admit a thing until co-erced! And he wanted to be my father's apprentice - at the time, Father was the best smith in Valinor, who learnt directly from Lord Aule Himself. And nothing would do for Feanaro but the very best."

The story also amused him, but he had to be careful not to laugh again. He ended up coughing either way, so he had a brief moment of obvious annoyance. "You should see him in the kitchen going through silverware. This spoon is too dented, this one has a tiny speck of something on it, this one isn't shiny enough.." He exaggerated for effect.

"That sounds like him." She says, amused. "Tis the problem living with a perfectionist who also happens to be one of the best craftsmen I have ever known. He made an entire dinner set as part of our wedding gift. Although I suspect our dear Tyelperinquar comes the closest to surpassing him - that's our grandson."

That reminded him..
"What was his beef with his step brothers? He told me what happened but I couldn't figure that part out."
TLDR Finwean Family Drama ahead
Well. Slow for them is probably light speed for other couples.
"Ah..." She sighs. "That tale is not one he likes speaking of, and it is, as family often is, very complicated. Has he told you of his mother? Miriel was the greatest seamstress and weaver of the Noldor in her day, and to this day her tapestries hang still in places of high honor, so life-like you might believe them to move. But after she bore Feanaro... something went wrong. She wearied of life in a way that we had thought we would never see in Blessed Valinor, and died - Feanaro blamed himself. Not helped by the gossips who whispered that he drained her life!" She huffs, clearly conveying idiots.
"He centered his whole life around his father, in lieu of his mother, and Finwe did the same... so when he got re-married... well. Feanaro felt that his mother was being abandoned, and blamed poor Indis for seducing his father. He did not always hate his half-siblings, ignore what he says. Indeed, he got along fairly well with his sisters, and mostly ignored young Arafinwe! But poor Nolofinwe...Nolofinwe, who looked so like Feanaro, who was clever with people in a way that my Feanaro never was, able to negotiate the currents and whirls of court so easily... And Finwe, poor misguided Finwe, poured all his love on Feanaro in an attempt to win him over, clearly showing favouritism that drove Nolofinwe unceasingly in search of his father's approval. That was where it began."
She sighs. "If Finwe was still alive, perhaps it might have remained there, as only petty jealousies. Perhaps they might have learnt eventually to share. But instead... instead, the Valar released Morgoth, and his lies whispered through the land so subtly that we did not even realise... " She shakes her head.
"It went from petty oneupmanship to shouting to phsyical fights, to one memorable day, a sword at poor Nolofinwe's neck, and then ... exile. I left, around then. It... it wasn't my Feanaro at home any longer. He would no longer listen to me, and we... we were arguing all the time. So I left. And to this day, I wonder if I should have stayed... if I might have prevented what came next... "
She gathers herself. "Morgoth and Ungoliant slew the Two Trees and Finwe, and took the Silmarils. The loss of his father... I think it sent him mad, for he loved Finwe more dearly than any other. He returned to Tirion, despite that his exile was not lifted, and claimed the crown. And Nolofinwe... renamed himself, Finwenolofinwe. A king's name. You can guess how my husband reacted to that."
It's amazing, I love it
"I don't think you should blame yourself for leaving. Sometimes you have to save yourself." Especially if you were living and/ or married to a mad man. He remembered when he thought he was dying and then again when he started having all of these PTSD symptoms. His wife was a saint to still stand by him after what he'd put her through. He wouldn't have blamed her if she'd left, though he doubted he would've survived as well on his own. "He doesn't blame you either, does he?"
Re: It's amazing, I love it
"He would no longer hear my voice." She says sadly. "Even he says I was right to leave. But oh, he took my boys with him, my dear sons. I still wish I had at least been there for them, as I could not."
She nods. "They all tell me they would not have wished me there, to endure what they had to. But I am a mother, and a wife, and I love them still, and so I will always wonder..."

He shook his head. "I wish I had something I could say or do to make this easier on you and your family but I don't." Pause. "Except I have elven beer in the making, so maybe I will soon?" He smirked.
no subject
She smiles. "Thank you, Tony - just your care and concern is enough, truly! Although I will not say no to beer."
no subject
He got up and held out a hand to help her up (not that she needed it).
no subject
She accepts the hand up.
