Day 19 - Time for a Wedding

Who: Lan WangJi, Wei WuXian and anyone else who wants to attend!
Where: Garden carriage and then gym car
When: Day 19 of Egret
What: Wedding! Wedding reception and lots of food.
Warnings: Pretty much up in the air. But there will likely a lot of PDA's from the wedding couple during the reception... because that's how they roll

Finally, it was Day 19, the day that WangJi and WuXian had chosen for their wedding.

Ceremony
Inside the garden, everything had been decorated in red and gold, traditional colors for a wedding in China. There were flowers and a low table set up.

As the ceremony begins, Lan WangJi and Wei WuXian enter with Lan Sizhui and Wen Qing as their attendants. The wedding clothes for WangJi and WuXian are also red, with designs of forest animals in the designs sewn in, including frogs and rabbits. All of this was courtesy of their friendly neighborhood spider. WuXian was also wearing a red veil over his hair and face. Even WangJi’s ever-present forehead ribbon was red today instead of white.

As the pair approached the table, WuXian on one side and WangJi on the other, they alternated bowing to each other three times before kneeling. With the help of their attendants, they each drank a cup of tea, which they used their long sleeves as though hiding that they were doing so behind them. Once they had put the cups down, WangJi reached up, pushing the veil back so that he could see WuXian’s face before removing the forehead ribbon he’d been wearing. Taking WuXian’s hand, he used to make kind of a loose knot between their two wrists, a Gusu Lan symbol that WuXian was his fated partner. Then as they carefully stood, WangJi leaned in to kiss WuXian before they both bowed to their attendants, thanks for assisting them and being there for them.

Reception
Following the wedding ceremony itself, the party then moved to the gym car, where the reception and feast were being held. Like the decorations for the wedding, it was also a lot of red and gold. To those who didn’t know beforehand, it would likely be obvious that red and gold here very important.

Lots of food cooked by wonderful volunteers from the train. Of course, there had to be dessert, which was the cake baked by the couple’s son, Lan Sizhui.

As the wedding couple, they were rather happily seated together of course. WangJi had since replaced the forehead ribbon on his head, but there was a high likelihood that sometime during the party WuXian was going to end up wearing it around his wrist.

[ It's party time and Bryn's here dressed up in something... passably appropriate for the occasion that she managed to raid from the dressing car. Does she know either of the grooms? Was she actually included in the spirit, rather than the letter, of the invitation that went out a few days ago? The answer to both of those questions is: absolutely not, but there's free food here and you'll have to chase her out with a broom if you want to be rid of her.

She's at least semi-decent enough to congratulate both the grooms before she starts chowing down and it's... kind of impressive the amount of food a girl as comparatively tiny as Bryn can put away?? Has she ever eaten before in her life? We just don't know. But the food and the drink seems to have mellowed her down energy levels a bit from "completely bubbling over" to "gently simmering".

To the unfortunate person who happens to catch her eye, Bryn immediately beams and takes that as an excuse to strike up a conversation. ]

It's a beautiful wedding, isn't it? I never thought someone would hold one on a train of all places! [ bryn you barely knew what a train WAS a week ago ] Do things like this happen on here often?

[Romeo is also eating a lot of food, more than you would expect a small boy to be able to eat, even if you knew the truth of how much food small boys consume!

He doesn't know the lady who spoke to him, he had missed the platform so there are a lot of people he doesn't know now!]

I never heard of a wedding on a train before! But I never been to a wedding before, just party before a wedding! I don't think anyone got married here before miss!" Not while he's been here, at least.]

So then, that makes two of us!

[ She gives him a grin. As much fun as she's having being a bit of a fish out of water, it's also weirdly reassuring to know when she's not the only one. ]

Aren't the decorations lovely? They're quite different from what I've heard of weddings using where I come from.

They are! [He nodded.] I don't know what the decorations are like in weddings where I was before. But they are very pretty!

[A huge grin.] I'm Romeo, it's nice to meet you miss. Did you just come to the train on the last platform?

That's right! I was lucky enough to arrive just in time to receive a wedding invitation so I knew it would be rude to not attend.

[ Isn't it wild how she manages to make that sound like she actually got invited personally and not just by proxy? By god, she's smarter than she looks.

... Which admittedly, still isn't much. ]

I'm Brynhilde – but please, do call me Bryn!

"It would be! Especially as they made so much effort to make everything look so great!" Romeo grinned, he was really happy that he had came back in time to see the wedding.

"Bryn!" He grinned at her. It was a pretty name!

Perhaps it could be something we organize regularly? I'm not usually one for the planning side of things, but I'm certain if we had enough people at the helm, we could have a number of regular gatherings like this!

[ She just wants party food. That's it. Let's not pretend otherwise. ]

We could! Maybe not weddings because lots of people might not want to get married but we could have parties. Like on birthdays! Me and mister Ignis were going to ask for everyone's birthdays and then celebrate them even if it is tricky because we don't have the same months.

[Party food was a perfectly good reason for wanting parties!]

What a wonderful idea!

[ And not just because Bryn gets party food out of it. Well, not primarily, at least. ]

I'm not a particularly skilled cook but I'm certain I could make myself useful with moving things around and getting things set up! Believe it or not, I'm quite a bit stronger than I look!

That's great! I can cook so I can help do that. I can teach you too if you want!

We could make fun decorations as well!

Oh, you can cook?

[ The speed with which she immediately switches gears to laser focus on that is utterly shameless. ]

Have you had much luck with cooking with the appliances we're expected to use here on the train?

Yes miss! [He nodded enthusiastically.] They aren't too different then what we had in the heavens! When I woke up there I didn't know how to cook at all but now I do! It's really fun and I like making tasty food for everyone!

Well, then! I'll simply have to take you up on your offer and see about learning for myself!

[ She could probably teach herself if she really wanted to, but she hasn't got the patience for that. Instead, she's going to be making her inability to feed herself this small child's problem. Class act. ]

[ Curufin approaches Bryn with a smile. He's here in the attire he collected from the dressing car, a trim burgundy suit. (OOC: MInus the jewelry in the picture.) His long black hair is braided formally and intricately, as Elves prefer for celebrations. He has a glass of wine in his hand. ]

It is a beautiful wedding, yes! I've never seen a wedding before on the Voidtrecker Express, but we've had a few gatherings and parties before. I'm Curufin, by the way.

How wonderful! I certainly hope we'll have more gatherings like this in future. It's much easier to settle into somewhere new when the morale of your companions is relatively high, don't you think!

[ She nods to herself, apparently pretty certain of this. ]

Regardless, though! It's good to meet you! My name is Brynhilde, but please feel free to call me Bryn if you would like.

I do think so! And there's no morale-booster like a party!

[ He apparently is pretty certain of this as well. ]

Pleased to meet you, Brynhilde!. . . Bryn. [ He checks his SCA quickly, pulling up the passenger roster. And then he looks up with a smile. ] You're on Team Orange, as am I. Welcome to the team! And my apologies for not having welcomed you when you first arrived.

Ahah! So that makes the two of us teammates!

[ Unbelievable as it may seem, the wattage on her smile turns up a few notches. ]

I assure you, I'll be working quite hard alongside my new teammates! We might have been sorted together by chance but I'm certain we can make the best of it!

Yes, we're teammates! Nice, huh?

[ She does have a high wattage smile, and he smiles in return. ]

I'm certain this chance assignment will turn out well for us both. Go, Team Orange! [ He punches a happy fist into the air. ]

So, are you enjoying the party?

Yes, yes! I'm having a wonderful time! I never thought I'd be so lucky as to arrive in time for a gathering like this. The food is wonderful and the decorations are beautiful!

[ Also, the couple are nice together or something? Eh. Not Bryn's main interest. She's happy they're married now and everything but she doesn't know either of them. Enjoying the party is what she's here for! ]

Have there been other weddings on the train before? Or is this a first?

I'm glad. This must be a great introduction to the train. I really do hope we can have more gatherings that involve food, music, laughter and dancing.

[ The wedding couple certainly are nice. But the party is nice whether you know them or not! ]

There haven't been any other weddings since I've been on the train. I can't say for sure if there were any before I came.

Ah, so perhaps that's why everyone's so excited... not only is it a party, but it's the first party like this we've had, at the very least in a long while! Perhaps everyone will use this as a jumping off point and the next party we have will be even more exciting...

[ She clasps her hands together, looking outright gleeful at the prospect ]

And perhaps there'll be even more food, too!

[ Theeeeere we go. ]

I really hope so! Parties are essential for maintaining morale, don't you think? We'll have to start thinking up more excuses to celebrate.

[ He looks gleeful, too. ]

Can't have a party without good food! We're lucky there are so many good cooks and bakers on board.

Yes, extremely so! To be frank, I'm not very skilled as a cook myself, so it's a relief to know there's people who are willing to provide food for the rest of us. I can certainly provide for myself if I have to, but when others are offering... well, it would be rude to refuse their hospitality, don't you think?

[ That's her excuse, anyway. ]

Oh, it would be absolutely rude to refuse the hospitality of the wedding couple and the cooks! [ Grin. ] I'm not that good in the kitchen either, so I can see your point.

[ That is, he won't give anybody food poisoning, but he's not a gourmet chef. ]

Well, have you managed to make the rounds of all the refreshments tables yet? Or is there one you've missed? We could go and bury our heads in cake.

Oh, goodness, there's cake!

[ She looks absolutely delighted by this revelation as if it was in fact a revelation and not just an easily observable fact about the party. That cup is probably not her first drink of the evening. ]

I'd been so preoccupied with all the other food I'd completely forgotten there was cake as well!
