Day 19 - Time for a Wedding

Who: Lan WangJi, Wei WuXian and anyone else who wants to attend!
Where: Garden carriage and then gym car
When: Day 19 of Egret
What: Wedding! Wedding reception and lots of food.
Warnings: Pretty much up in the air. But there will likely a lot of PDA's from the wedding couple during the reception... because that's how they roll

Finally, it was Day 19, the day that WangJi and WuXian had chosen for their wedding.

Ceremony
Inside the garden, everything had been decorated in red and gold, traditional colors for a wedding in China. There were flowers and a low table set up.

As the ceremony begins, Lan WangJi and Wei WuXian enter with Lan Sizhui and Wen Qing as their attendants. The wedding clothes for WangJi and WuXian are also red, with designs of forest animals in the designs sewn in, including frogs and rabbits. All of this was courtesy of their friendly neighborhood spider. WuXian was also wearing a red veil over his hair and face. Even WangJi’s ever-present forehead ribbon was red today instead of white.

As the pair approached the table, WuXian on one side and WangJi on the other, they alternated bowing to each other three times before kneeling. With the help of their attendants, they each drank a cup of tea, which they used their long sleeves as though hiding that they were doing so behind them. Once they had put the cups down, WangJi reached up, pushing the veil back so that he could see WuXian’s face before removing the forehead ribbon he’d been wearing. Taking WuXian’s hand, he used to make kind of a loose knot between their two wrists, a Gusu Lan symbol that WuXian was his fated partner. Then as they carefully stood, WangJi leaned in to kiss WuXian before they both bowed to their attendants, thanks for assisting them and being there for them.

Reception
Following the wedding ceremony itself, the party then moved to the gym car, where the reception and feast were being held. Like the decorations for the wedding, it was also a lot of red and gold. To those who didn’t know beforehand, it would likely be obvious that red and gold here very important.

Lots of food cooked by wonderful volunteers from the train. Of course, there had to be dessert, which was the cake baked by the couple’s son, Lan Sizhui.

As the wedding couple, they were rather happily seated together of course. WangJi had since replaced the forehead ribbon on his head, but there was a high likelihood that sometime during the party WuXian was going to end up wearing it around his wrist.

The couple is, of course, sitting together and mingling with the guests, never more than a few paces apart and quite probably holding hands. Come and talk to them and give your well-wishes if you would like to!

"Congratulations, both of you. If I may be so forward as to offer it, would you both care for a blessing?"

She's no priestess or even miko, and she knows her formalities need work, but she has been to enough weddings over the years to know that offering a blessing is one of the more sacred gifts a couple can receive.

Eva's outfit is simple, muted reds and silvers with nary a family crest on display, and her hair's been pulled up into a simple bun sans ornaments.

There's little fussing when Eva gets ready for this wedding. Oh no. She knows exactly what she's wearing and why. Her chosen outfit is simple; muted reds and silvers with nary a family crest on display, and her hair's been pulled up into a simple bun sans ornaments. Some might claim said outfit is male, but within her culture, it's a traditionally female outfit.

And yes, she will happily point it out to anyone who asks or tries to tell her otherwise.

It's also of note that Princess isn't with her, nor is his pokeball on her person. Cabinmates may have noticed she's left it on her bunk.

That said, those who know her adoration of plant motifs will probably find it a shock there's nothing of the sort with this outfit, and Eva looks amused if it's brought up. "It's not proper as a guest of a wedding."

Otherwise, she's going to enjoy herself. Eat, drink, and mingle.

Nita wastes no time in coming to say hello - the Garden car had been too crowded for Nita to get an in-person seat, but she's beaming all the same as she shows up, bowing in what she hopes isn't too deep of one!

"Congratulations, you two! I don't think I've seen anyone on the train this happy before!"

Except maybe Rapunzel and her paints... but that was a different kind of happiness.

Nita is also out and about, having found something in the Dressing car that she tolerates. It came with matching shoes, and she has her hair down instead of in a ponytail.

Is she eating? Some, but not all that much - and she's sticking to the non-alcoholic drinks. She won't make that mistake here twice!

[ It's party time and Bryn's here dressed up in something... passably appropriate for the occasion that she managed to raid from the dressing car. Does she know either of the grooms? Was she actually included in the spirit, rather than the letter, of the invitation that went out a few days ago? The answer to both of those questions is: absolutely not, but there's free food here and you'll have to chase her out with a broom if you want to be rid of her.

She's at least semi-decent enough to congratulate both the grooms before she starts chowing down and it's... kind of impressive the amount of food a girl as comparatively tiny as Bryn can put away?? Has she ever eaten before in her life? We just don't know. But the food and the drink seems to have mellowed her down energy levels a bit from "completely bubbling over" to "gently simmering".

To the unfortunate person who happens to catch her eye, Bryn immediately beams and takes that as an excuse to strike up a conversation. ]

It's a beautiful wedding, isn't it? I never thought someone would hold one on a train of all places! [ bryn you barely knew what a train WAS a week ago ] Do things like this happen on here often?

Ivy would confess to being surprised when she first saw the lucky couple - a wedding with no bride and two grooms? Well, strange as it may seem, it doesn't even rate in the top ten strangest things she's seen on this train. Besides, what really matters in a marriage is love, and there's no denying that's what these two gentlemen have for each other. Truly, the new world is full of strange and wonderful things.

In the spirit of celebrating things new and old, the only thing to do is to give her regards to the newlyweds. She's in her usual attire - more corporeal fashion tends to just fall through her eventually, so she seldom bothers.

"Allow me to offer my most sincere congratulations! I never would have imagined a wedding on a train. You've made it a more cheerful place for all of us, yourselves most of all."

Wuxian has, naturally tugged free Lan Zhan's forehead ribbon and wrapped it around his wrist. It's his right, after all. He's no longer wearing the veil, but the rest of his wedding robes remain.

He smiles brightly at Eva, fingers entwined with his husband's and shares barely even a glance with the taller man before nodding.

"Thank you, we would be honored to receive it." Formal words from a gremlin, along with a formalish bow of his head.

WuXian laughs happily at her and releases Lan Zhan's hand long enough to return her bow, though his arms come up so his hands cup formally- she'll notice the red ribbon that had been on WangJi's forehead is now wrapped around WuXian's wrist.

"Thank you!

"Has there been a wedding on this train before?"

A spirit, his senses tell him. But a friendly and sweet one, and clearly self-aware. No resentful energy, which is only right! Today is a Cheerful Occasion!

WuXian's smile is bright and delighted at her wishes and bows his head with no less respect than a formal full bow would touch on. "We tend to do the unusual and unexpected. Why not a wedding on a train?" Just a very slight hint at tease, really.

Recognizing the bow for a sign of respect, Ivy awkwardly returns it, hoping that's what you're supposed to do at a time like this.

"It's true, all sorts of things about this wedding were a surprise! The location, the colors..." Speaking of that, she just has to ask. "I was wondering, though... how do you decide who will change their surname when you're both the husband? --Wait, was that a rude question? You don't have to answer it, never mind!"

"Not as far as I've heard!"

Though that's not an absolute, given she hasn't been here all that long herself.

"Don't know if they'll become regular or anything, though. As nice as it would be..."

She absently rubs a hand over the fabric of her dress.

"Since I'm betting you're the only ones keeping your clothes from today and all."

Bailey can't remember the last time they've been to a wedding - it must have been when they were a child, dragged along by their parents. None of the people they knew were quite ready to hop into marriages, not that they know all that many people. Most of their friends are already dead, so, you know, that's not happening. Still, even though they don't know the couple, they want to offer them their well wishes.

They've dressed up for the occasion, with a bird of paradise flower tucked into their hair. They are, at least, wearing flats so they're not even taller than usual. They're enjoying all of the warm, happy feelings coming from everyone, and there's a small smile on their face. Usually, they'd be a wallflower, but, well, they're in a good mood thanks to everyone else's good mood.

They're holding onto a glass, and they seem to brighten as soon as they get close to another person. "This entire thing is lovely, isn't it? Do you think there'll be more weddings or engagements?"

"I'm afraid I haven't the slightest idea, but it would most certainly be interesting! And, of course, a source for future happiness."

Webmind makes the robot 'screen' display a winking face. He's not nearly dressed up as Bailey is, alas, not having been able to make it down to the Dressing car before the ceremony started, but he doesn't seem bothered by the notion.

Orange isn't an unlucky color for the proceedings, as far as he's aware!

"I heard there was a more general party last month, as well; perhaps events like this will simply happen, coincidence or not."

It's a wedding and weddings are lovely, so of course Gwen is going to show up. She's Peter's date, after all, and she's meeting him there after getting dressed and doing her make-up.

Surprisingly, she knows what she's doing and knows how to actually dress like a girl. And she's feeling pretty good about it, too.

Waiting for Peter just outside where the ceremony will be held, she does her best to keep herself from messing with her own hair, waiting...badly. She's bad at waiting, okay? It's just how Spider-Kids are.

If you're anyone she knows, you're greeted with a smile and a small 'hey', and she's willing to talk to basically anyone at this point. Please keep her from losing her mind as she waits for her boy.

This was absolutely Evie's jam. Planning the food, picking out an outfit to wear. She was so for it, and she'd had a blast helping Ignis out in the kitchen before running to the dressing car and grabbing her dress. She was excited to see it. It was almost exactly like something she'd designed and made for herself back home, minus the cape she put on it. And it fit so well. Part of her wondered if it was the same dress from home.

And now she could be found anywhere during the whole thing, watching the ceremony with interest, spending time with people at the reception.

Grab her for a slow dance? Or just come and say hi. Evie's absolutely friendly and will gladly talk to anyone.

Merciless was wearing a short and easy to move in red dress she had found. It was not the sort of thing she was accustomed to wearing, but an occasion such as a wedding warranted a more formal outfit.

"Greetings and well met. I do not know either of you, but that was a wonderful ceremony. More brief than the ones I have seen, but still full of beauty. I hope that you do not mind that I only know one blessing for such an occasion. I have led a wedding ceremony only once; it is not one of my standard duties as a priestess."

Misa likes weddings. She'd spent a good couple of hours on the couple's hair. She's really proud for how it turned out. Simple hairstyles are always the hardest.

Then, she went and did herself. Her dress is not quite what she'd been looking for - she's still mad about her white dress - but it's very much what she's used to be seen in. She's still plotting out her second auction dress, but that might be on hold.

She stands, waiting for Joss before she goes in. She likes Joss, and he'd asked her to wait. She doesn't fidget, just holds her hands in front of her, and waits. But she'll gladly talk to whoever stops by.

WangJi had made no objection to the fact that WuXian had taken the forehead ribbon and was now wearing it around his wrist again. As his husband, he was allowed to do such a thing. He'd basically given it to him at the wedding ceremony. Besides, WuXian had taken off the veil.

WangJi held Wuxian's hand carefully in his, a faint smile on his face as Eva approached them.

"Yes, we would be honored. Thank you."

Zelda lingers near the edges of a party, dressed in a gown of cream and peach with a green Hylian-style apron hanging down from her waist. It... may be a bit much, she admits to herself as she notes the other passengers' clothing choices. Still, this is the first wedding she's attended since childhood and the first ever where she's had to choose her own dress for the occasion. And with her fair hair hanging down her back, she manages to look quite fetching.

If she can manage to look confident with out Sheikah armor and facewrappings, she thinks to herself, people may not even notice that she's more dressed up than most.

She stays near the reception table, a glass clutched in a gloved hand (occasionally, she even takes a sip from it.)Mostly she's content to observe and listen, though sometimes you might catch her humming along to some of the music. Later, someone might realize why- as the party begins to break down she wanders off to slip her ocarina out of her pocket and try to recreate the songs that caught her attention.

When she greeted them with a bow, WangJi returned it as well, tucking his hands inside his robes for a brief moment as he does, before standing back up. When WuXian righted himself, WangJi would be reaching for his hand again.

"Something more positive in nature would be nice to look forward to."

Even if it wasn't necessarily a wedding. They just happened to be lucky that way that they might have been the first wedding on this train.

At the question about clothes, he nodded his head once. "The spider made them for us herself."

WangJi bowed as well when Ivy returned the bow. He could tell that she was a spirit, but there was no ill-intention from her so he would say nothing of it. Having Wen Ning as a traveling companion for some time definitely showed that ghosts were capable of thought after death.

"Red and gold are colors of good luck," WangJi remarked. "They are important for a wedding."

As to the next question.

"He will not take my last name. Even though he is my wife, it is the name that came from his family and it would be dishonorable to take it away."

Yes, WangJi really did just say "wife" with a straight face.

"Aah, but that's all the more reason to have had one! That and Lan Zhan hasn't experienced our first one."

But WuXian doesn't seem too upset. They'd fixed it now. And he smiles, squeezing Lan Zhan's hand as their fingers slip together again. "She was very sweet and made the designs I offered even better."

One might think WuXian would look embarrassed at being introduced as wife. Instead his smile only warms as he leans a bit against his husband as he lets Lan Zhan answer.

"And I wouldn't ask Lan Zhan to take my last name because he has a sect to return to that relies on him."

WangJi looked up at Merciless as she approached. His senses as a cultivator got an odd vibe off her, but he wasn't able to pinpoint what it was. It didn't seem to be resentful energy though. Interesting. But as long as nothing untoward happened, he would ignore it. She seemed nice enough thus far.

He did give a bow when she greeted them, releasing WuXian's hand in order to do so, tucking his hands into his sleeves.

"Thank you. It is as traditional as we could do here." In regards to the blessing, he said "We do not mind."
