Event: Abort! Part Two (day 25, Egret). Luggage carriage

They are on world world#27462947582 for about five hours, helping, ushering people out of the city, fighting monsters, keeping guard. All seems well in the city itself, peaceful even except for the slight panic of people being told to move south.

Wherever they are, north in the desert, travelling through the countryside to the south or still in the city itself they will notice from their peripheral vision a darkening of the sky. Looking up they will see clouds. Strange clouds, appearing in the blue sky out of nowhere.

Their SCA’s start beeping, rapidly, flashing red. The clouds are too weird to be clouds, dark shapes in the sky. It might be that the Voidtreckers heed the warning and tap their SCA to evacuate to the train. It might be that they do not.

If they don’t then there is a moment, a moment of absolute stillness as those around them notice the shapes. A confused pause. Children stop their chatter, people stop their complaining, even the monsters seem to sense something and pause in their attacks.

The remaining voidtreckers are yanked away, even without pressing their SCA, they glow gold and disappear.

They all appear in the luggage carriage and not even a second later, with no warning the train lurches, flinging everyone off their feet as it enters the void.

It’s not really easy to tell speed in the void, but they will get the sense that they are moving fast. Faster than before, leaving that world and whatever those shapes were behind.

(OOC: Information on this event is here and part one is here)

There's another somewhat small form tumbling not far away. Sarai's staff goes clattering--she has a death grip on her bow, but she is, at least, unhurt. Or mostly unhurt save for some scrapes, and then the utter lack of dignity.

"Did anyone catch the color of that chocobo?" she asks, weakly, before trying to right herself. Though she catches a glimpse of Conan, and that makes her shake off her daze and scramble to him, checking him over. Once she catches sight of blood, she fumbles for her white mage job stone.

"What happened? I have you, I can help," she says, reassuringly, even as she's working to change out jobs, slinging Failnaught back and reaching for her fallen staff. The outfit changes not at all, but there's some sort of change, be it in Sarai's aura or demeanor, somehow--her normal warm and cheerful persona expands to be more comforting and soothing; the healing aura of a White Mage, opposed to a Bard.

Joss collides with someone in the confusion, hard, and looks down to find his hand covered in blood. “Shit,” he swears under his breath.

And that’s when he spots Conan.

“Conan!” He’s already trying to strip off his tunic to put pressure on the smaller boy’s not insignificant wounds when Sarai approaches.

Help him,” he begs her, headless of his own cuts and bruises.

Conan was wincing as he rolls back over. He gathers up some of the fabric from his cloak and presses it down on his right arm, where the worst of the damage was.

"Boar," he says aloud. "There was a group that attacked us, and one of them got me with a tusk."

"I shall, I shall!" she says, reassuring Joss as best she can. Sarai can't blame the boy; between his own ordeal on the last mission, and now this...really, he's taking it well, but even he might be in shock. Time to work.

She closes her eyes, first, gesturing down at Conan's arm. A quick Regen spell, to start slowing the bleeding and knitting the injury. "No, I need to see this, please." Mostly to be sure that the bones beneath aren't broken, though she can only palpitate with one hand, as gently as she can.

Good thing that the spell will also lessen the pain of that. Sarai also wants to be sure there's no other debris in the wound, like fabric from Conan's shirt or worse from the boar's tusks. The bleeding should be starting to slow, at least...

Oh good, she is helping. Joss backs away as much as he can in the crush of confused and angry people and pulls his now ruined tunic away so that Sarai can see her work.

“That boar did a number on you, but you’re going to be all right.”

He feels like a third wheel, getting in the way, but he doesn’t want to leave the other boy. He feels responsible for him, somehow.

Conan nods as Sarai asks to see the injury, and removes the cloth he had been using to keep pressure on it. He winces as he looks at it. That... It didn't hurt quite as much as the times he'd been shot, but it really didn't look good.

He tenses a little as she casts the spell. He still wasn't really sure what to expect from those. But it seemed to help with the pain, at least. Although the pins and needles sensation that came with it felt very odd.

And Joss was worrying. Conan spares a moment to glance over at him.

"Of course I'll be all right."

Her brows furrow. This was not the worst wound she's ever attempted to heal, but it isn't the easiest, either. The Au Ra takes up her staff again and concentrates, letting a glowing shield of sorts expand out from her place on the floor. Since everyone in the luggage car is hardly hostile to Sarai, those exposed to it will have their aches or wounds soothed, but not healed, save for Conan. Anyone attempting to heal someone inside it will find it easier to do so, at least.

She turns her attention back to the young man, flourishing her staff over him, now, as she casts Medica--a more serious spell than Regen was. Likely there's a flash of pain, quickly soothed by the Asylum spell, but it might be a bit discomfiting to see his wound actually begin to knit itself together. There doesn't seem to be anything dire in the wound, but a single cast of Esuna couldn't hurt.

Save the spell seems...more taxing than it normally should? Her brow furrows for the moment, but Sarai's a good healer, and for the moment, she simply waits to see what it tells her in its turn, before pressing on...

“You’re being awfully calm about this,” Joss remarks to Conan, but then Sarai casts another spell. The throbbing Joscelin’s face abates somewhat, but he isn’t paying attention enough to notice it. All of his focus is on Conan.

"Being shot hurt more," Conan remarks absently to Joss as he focuses on the strange and rather uncomfortable feeling of his wound knitting together. It itched terribly.

He frowns as he sees Sarai pause.

"Is something wrong?"
sweetnessandfight: (You did what with what??)

[personal profile] sweetnessandfight 2020-04-19 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wrong isn't the proper word," Sarai admits. Though her face is still uncertain, her brow furrows a bit. "Esuna--the spell I just cast--cleanses disease and poison, and a few other strangenesses you can be afflicted with, where I hail from."

She lifts a hand to run her thumb and forefinger down her chin, leaning against her staff as she watches Conan's arm heal. She looks thoughtful, and then gestures, casting Regen once again even as the first Medica spell slows.

"I cast it to be sure you weren't afflicted from something from those boars, but it's acting as if you're still afflicted with something. What, I could not say. It does not tell me such things, properly."

But she gestures again, casting Esuna once more. With much the same effect occurring again, and her confusion turns into something more of a scowl. But she just looks at Conan. Sarai prefers not to jump to conclusions verbally--especially not with what she does know of her former roommate. He can explain or not, as he likes.

An expression of mixed fear, guilt and sadness flickers over Conan's face, before any emotions are hidden away.

"I know what that is," he says at last. "Don't worry about it. I've had that for a long time."
sweetnessandfight: (o...kay)

[personal profile] sweetnessandfight 2020-04-19 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aye, I suspected as much," Sarai says, watching his face, but also keeping her peace. Does she want to ask? Seven hells, yes. But she suspects it wouldn't do any good, at the moment.

"Something I should likely not mess with too much, then." That's said with a resigned sigh, but she nods. "Very well. How does your arm feel? Can you move it? Flex your fingers?"

Her spells should have knitted the bone should it have been broken, as well as repaired the muscle, skin, and sinew. By rights, Conan should be well, now. Or as well as he ever is, with what he's just said. Sarai doesn't have to like it. But she will keep her silence.

Joscelin is used to magical healing, even if he has yet to encounter it himself in his newly mortal state. But he isn’t used to this particular brand of magic, and he watches Sarai work with great interest.

“You still look rather pale,” he points out, not very helpfully. Of course Conan’s pale. He’s just been gored by a damn wild boar.
deductiongeek: (family)

Cautiously, he flexes his fingers and then makes a fist.

"It doesn't hurt anymore," he says with some surprise.

Conan had known Sarai long enough, that he would have almost be willing to tell her a little more. If Joss hadn't been right there, and if they weren't currently surrounded by other people.
sweetnessandfight: (plotting)

[personal profile] sweetnessandfight 2020-04-20 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Sarai nodded as Joss pointed out how pale Conan was. "You're right. He likely needs a good meal and rest, at the very least. He's lost a good amount of blood, for someone his size."

She gave a bit of a sigh and looked at the other boy, then to Conan. "You two both get a bite to eat, and then see Conan to 1B? Then you at least ought to come back and get someone to look at you--you look as though you've been punched in the face, Joss."

It's not particularly bossy or demanding, especially not from Sarai--she's not the type. But Joss is on her team, and there's still a bit of 'you are mine to take care of' attitude there. Not that Joss is the only one suffering that, lately.
dredefulchilde: (laughing)

[personal profile] dredefulchilde 2020-04-20 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Joss snorts. “Yes, Mum,” he says sarcastically, because he knows he’s got a reputation to maintain. “It’s really not that bad. Got thrown against some shelves during takeoff. Misa said she’ll fix me up.” Which is good, because his left eye is now purple and beginning to swell shut.

He moves to help Conan to his feet.

“Right, you heard the lady. Let’s get you to the kitchen.”
deductiongeek: (too early)

[personal profile] deductiongeek 2020-04-20 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I can make it back to the cabin by myself, you realize."

But he doesn't resist Joss's help as he gets pulled back to his feet.
sweetnessandfight: (Dread did what now?)

[personal profile] sweetnessandfight 2020-04-20 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Still!" Joss isn't the only one with a reputation to maintain. She simply supports Conan with a hand.

"I should stay here. But if you have any gratitude, I would love if you brought me some food...or told my husband I was here healing others, if you would!"

Sarai would warn them to be careful, after the day's events...but they should be safe on the train, now. Shouldn't they?
dredefulchilde: (smile)

[personal profile] dredefulchilde 2020-04-20 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
“I’m not the one who just got gored by a wild animal, idiot,” Joss chides Conan, almost affectionately. “She’s right. Plus, I’m starving and Doctor’s not around so I’m going to sneak as many sweets as I can possibly manage.” It’s been ten days of nothing but the Doctor’s patented refeeding diet of healthy soups and Joscelin is so bored he could scream. He’s slowly begun putting on weight, but not quickly enough for the Doctor’s tastes. Even though he’s several inches taller than Conan, he barely weighs more than the smaller boy. All of his ribs show as he reclaims his rather bloody tunic from Conan, seeing as it’s no longer needed.

“Let’s go find something to eat. You need iron. So...red meat, spinach, chocolate, lentils, broccoli...”

Joss ticks several more foods off using his fingers. If there is one thing a vampire knows, it’s which foods help with anemia. They help take the edge off between blood meals.

"Thanks, Sarai." Conan doesn't say anything, but her steadying hand is appreciated.

Conan makes a face at Joss' list of foods. "Do we even have all those in the kitchen?"
