A Fluffy New Friend

WangJi was happy. How could he not be when the best husband he could ask for gifted him with a white rabbit. Rabbits were his favorite and he liked them. Now he had one of his own.

Of course, he wouldn't be a responsible pet owner if he didn't show his pet around the train so it could be used to the accommodations... and the fact that their home moved even though most of the time it wasn't too noticeable.

But he could easily be found around on arrival day with the rabbit safely tucked in his arms, still clearly visible so it could look around and see and greet others.

Prior to mealtime, WangJi could be found in the dining car sitting at one of the tables, letting the rabbit stretch its legs for a few minutes and look around. Yes, the rabbit was on the table, but he wasn't letting it out of arms reach just in case. Luckily, it seemed more content to just sit for the moment.

Where the rabbit was most happy was in the garden car. It had the chance to run around a bit in there and as long as it stayed away from the plants other passengers were growing, WangJi let it explore and walk on its own though he was not far away to make sure it didn't get anything it shouldn't.

Sitting in the greenhouse, Trowa was practicing with his bamboo flute as his cat lounged on the edge of one of the planters. He saw the long haired man come in, carrying a white ball of fluff. "Ah, you are Lan WangJi, right? I recall your wedding happened shortly after I arrived. It's late, bit you have my congratulations." He hadn't gone because he hadn't known anyone aside from Duo at the time.

WangJi wasn't exactly surprised to see someone else in there, but someone else playing flute did surprise him. Sure, other people knew how to play flute other than WuXian, but he didn't spend much time around them.

He nodded his head to show that Trowa was correct in his assessment that he was, in fact, Lan WangJi and he had gotten married. He crouched to set the rabbit on the ground so it could explore. "Thank you. It has not been long since I arrived either, but WuXian and I were married in his time."

The rabbit sat up on its hide legs after WangJi put it down, sniffing the air.

"I imagine it was a relief to be able to marry again, even in such an unusual place as this." Trowa smiled warmly, spotting the little ball of fluff. "I see you also have a pet now, what a cute rabbit." Slowly, he held his hand out so the bunny could come and sniff at his fingers if it wanted to.

"Yes. I'm sure it was. We had not married yet in my time so it was my first, but was something that will likely not happen to anyone else from our world."

Marrying on a weird train that traveled through the void with so many others from different worlds.

"Yes. Wei Ying ordered him for me."

The bunny hopped over to Trowa's outstretched hand, leaning up to sniff at his fingers.

Trowa let the rabbit sniff his fingers, holding his hand totally still. "An excellent present from your husband. And thankfully he's big enough I doubt my kitten will try to mess with him." At his side, Amira had perked up and was watching the white ball of fluff.

The rabbit sniffed before dropping back down onto all fours and walking around as it explored. "Wei Ying is very thoughtful," WangJi said, with a fond smile.

At the mention of a kitten and seeing the movement, WangJi now spotted Amira, having missed her before since she was so small. "That is a small feline."

The rabbit was unconcerned even if it had noticed Amira.

"She is one of the smallest species of wild cat in my world." Truthfully, the rabbit was about the same size as Amira, and she hopped down to come over and sniff the white creature curiously. He picked up his flute and played a few soft notes to watch the ears on the rabbit and Amira's twitch to the notes.

"I see. I have never seen one that small."

The rabbit watched as Amira came over to sniff at him, sniffing back at the cat. The rabbit didn't seem scared at least. As Trowa started to play, the rabbit's ears did twitch in response and it looked away from Amira to look at him.

"My husband plays the flute as well," WangJi remarked when he stopped playing.

"Does he? I admit, bamboo flutes are not my usual kind. Typically, I've played metal flutes, but it's nice to hear that there's someone else who plays the same instrument. Has he heard about the performance group Glorfindel has been working on setting up?"

"Metal flutes?" This was a concept that WangJi was not familiar with. "We have bamboo, wooden, and jade flutes. Most recently he has played bamboo. I have not heard about that at this moment."

"Yes, it's something from Europe, where bamboo doesn't grow. I think once I have enough of the points that the train uses as money, I'll try to purchase one. It does have a different sound to other materials, though I can't say I've ever heard a jade flute." It sounded very pretty.

“I see. They would be much harder to damage than some wooden ones. Jade flutes are hard to make but the sound is described as some of the best.”

"I can imagine, jade is a very hard material." Amira grew tired of the bunny and wandered over to sniff at WangJi's feet, her tail curling in interest. Trowa looked at her with a smile. "You are more than welcome to pet her if you would like to. She's very sweet."

The rabbit watched as Amira walked away, clearly unconcerned with a feline that was so small and hadn't tried to go after him. WangJi looked down at the cat. "Thank you. And you may pet Little Rabbit as well. He seems to enjoy it." With that, WangJi crouched so that he could lightly pet Amira.

With WangJi's blessing, Trowa reached for the rabbit and stroked between its ears. It was very soft, and seemed to be quite friendly. "Hello, Little Rabbit."

Amira sniffed at WangJi's long fingers before rubbing her ears against them.

Little Rabbit was happy with pets and made a happy bunny face as he settled in to let someone dote on him. He was friendly, which was good because WangJi was enjoying being able to carry the rabbit around.

Echoing Trowa's comment, WangJi said "Hello, little one" to Amira as she rubbed her ears against his hand.

Since the bunny seemed happy at the petting, Trowa took a chance. He set his flute on the ground and carefully picked the bun up to cuddle it. "You are a very soft rabbit, aren't you? I'm sure you're getting lots of tasty vegetables from the kitchen, too."

Little Rabbit was okay with being picked up and pet, curling up in Trowa's arms, little nose wiggling as he rested there.

"He is very soft. Yes, he is very spoiled with vegetables."

He gently pet Amira on the head with one finger.

Amira pressed up into the finger, purring her little heart out. It made Trowa chuckle a little. "It seems she likes you."

Awww! The tiny feline was purring.

"It seems that she does. Little Rabbit seems to like you as well."

"Well, I do spend a good chuck of time here if Little Rabbit ever wants to come play with Amira." Trowa stroked the bunny softly, smiling as it nuzzled his fingers.

"I will remember that. I'm sure he would like a playmate. Currently, he has none."

Little Rabbit rubbed against his fingers, very happy to have other people to hang out and meet. He wasn't quite sure about the feline yet, but it hadn't tried to attack him.

Well, since they were close enough... he wiggled out from under Trowa's hand and went over to Amira, carefully nosing her.

Amira responded to the nosing by turning away from WangJi's fingers to sniff at the rabbit, padding around him to sniff his tail.

Trowa watched the exchange with a smile. "They certainly seem to be getting on well so far."

"They do certainly seem to be."

Little Rabbit did a little bounce as Amira moved behind him but turned around so he could see Amira again.

The bounce made Amira do a little hop of her own, dropping into a pouncing pose as she reached one paw out to tap Little Rabbit on the nose.

"I think they're becoming friends already. I expect they'll be tearing around the greenhouse any minute now."
