A Fluffy New Friend

WangJi was happy. How could he not be when the best husband he could ask for gifted him with a white rabbit. Rabbits were his favorite and he liked them. Now he had one of his own.

Of course, he wouldn't be a responsible pet owner if he didn't show his pet around the train so it could be used to the accommodations... and the fact that their home moved even though most of the time it wasn't too noticeable.

But he could easily be found around on arrival day with the rabbit safely tucked in his arms, still clearly visible so it could look around and see and greet others.

Prior to mealtime, WangJi could be found in the dining car sitting at one of the tables, letting the rabbit stretch its legs for a few minutes and look around. Yes, the rabbit was on the table, but he wasn't letting it out of arms reach just in case. Luckily, it seemed more content to just sit for the moment.

Where the rabbit was most happy was in the garden car. It had the chance to run around a bit in there and as long as it stayed away from the plants other passengers were growing, WangJi let it explore and walk on its own though he was not far away to make sure it didn't get anything it shouldn't.

"As most younglings are!" She smiles. "Your husband told me he'd gotten you a present. Have you decided on a name yet?"

"I suppose so." Everything young didn't know any better to not get into things they shouldn't, be it a rabbit, horses, or children. "I haven't yet. I wanted to decide after observing."

The rabbit hopped around between them, frequently sniffing air. So many flowers and other plants!

Nerdanel nudges it gently away any time it gets too close to her tools, but mostly the rabbit seems happier with the flowers, so she only spares it the briefest of glances.

"Ah! And have any options started to become possible yet?"

The rabbit was quickly getting the idea that it was supposed to stay away from those things she was messing with, but the flowers were okay so soon it was looking at them less and less, and even then from further away.

But yes, the rabbit seemed more interested in the flowers than anything else.

"Perhaps... Jinhua."

"Jinhua... that has a nice sound to it. What does it mean?"

WangJi was glad that the rabbit seemed to learn quickly. It also meant that it was likely to adjust to life on the train quickly and not be startled by it.

"Gold flower. Gold is a good luck color in our world."

"A lovely name!" Nerdanel smiles. "Gold is popular in mine as well - to us, in means purity and flexibility, as well as endurance."

"Those are good meanings. Good fortune and prosperity in ours. It is why gold is used at wedding ceremonies in my world."

Since she had been to their wedding reception, she would have seen the use of gold.

"Could also name him 'Fu-Han' - Broadminded - since he seems to be trying to understand."

"Ah! We use it a lot as well, although more in jewellry, than in decoration. They did look very lovely."

She smiles. "He rather is! A very curious little creature, but then, he IS young."

"We as well. It is harder to obtain here on short notice and without points."

Darn the way this train worked.

"He is. The rabbits who come to me most back home are older. They aren't so curious anymore."

"Once folk get older, they learn caution." Nerdanel nods. "This is true for both people and animals!"

“True. Our juniors did get themselves into trouble a few times.”

Little Rabbit sat up on his hind legs, trying to sniff one of the flowers, but rather unceremoniously flopped over, rolling around for a moment to right himself before looking around like “nobody saw that, right?”

Nerdanel smiles at the rabbit's antics.

"Tis the province of Juniors to get into trouble." She agrees. "How else would they learn!"

"It is. That is indeed how they learn. Of course, not always how we want them to learn. Then again, we likely did things our elders didn't approve of when we were their age."

"As long as no one is irreparably hurt, allowing folk to make their own mistakes tends to be a good teacher, I find." She nods and laughs.

"Ai! This is true. How my parents must have worried when I was younger."

"No irreparable mistakes. The juniors were safer than the seniors in the end."

"My uncle and older brother certainly worried about me."

"Tis the province of family to worry." She agrees.

"I certainly worried over my own brood, in turn! But surely you did not get into such trouble yourself?"

"It is."

"Unfortunately I did. I did it to protect my Wei Ying, but he was an enemy of the cultivation world. When my brother had elders come to retrieve me before I lost face, I fought with my own sect trying to protect Wei Ying."

"Ah." She murmurs, and wonders if it was another Fingon and Maedhros scenario.

"He is fortunate indeed to have such a husband! I am glad."

"It was not until long later that I got to see him again, but I would do anything protect him, my Wei Ying."

"Good." She smiles at him. "I am very glad. The two of you are so happy together, it would be very sad if you were parted!"

"I was apparently here before, but I do not remember it. But Wen Qing says that when I left, Wei Ying was very sad. I do not wish to do that to him again."

"He loves you very much." She nods. "To be parted from those we love is... difficult. I hope you will not have to experience such again!"

"And I love him very much. I do not want that to happen even if that means we are both here. We would be here together."

She reaches across to touch his hand in understanding.

"I will pray that if any are kind, that you will not be soon parted."
