Party Time

[loveandduty]

Who: Everyone who wants to attend.
What: It's a party for all, but the pairing up part is for singles only.
When: Day 19 of Fiddlesticks
Where: Gym Carriage
Warnings: Who knows atm just Minako being Minako will add more as things happen.

[Minako figured she did the best she could for the party. Though she also wondered if perhaps she might not have that many people come. Sure she wanted to put singles together, but at the same time, she simply wanted people to have fun.

In the dressing carriage, people will find costumes and masks that were more gothic in nature. There was food and hopefully some forms of sweet treats for those looking for it as well as a variety of drink, mostly non-alcoholic.]

Duo's smile was wide and open, he was going to be friendly here, because why not? She seemed nice enough.

"Yeah, most people here are good. Really chatty." He chuckled to himself and then gave a little nod toward her. "Why not tell me about yourself? Can't say I got to meet you when you first showed up. Then the mission... I've missed a lot. So what's your story?"

"Oh, um..." She hesitated a moment, playing with the tablecloth a little bit. He certain did seem nice enough. But she was never sure how much to talk about things back home, since she couldn't predict how people might react.

"Well...where I come from, most people are pretty normal. But there are some people that have...special abilities. I actually go to a school that helps us train and control our abilities, and use them to help others."

Duo gave a low, impressed whistle at that. He leaned forward a little, unable to help himself. "Special abilities? So you have special abilities?" He asked with a wide grin, really curious of what it was. "You don't have ta tell me, course. But what about others? What kinda abilities are 'special'?"

Thinking for a moment, she then smiled a bit as she leaned forward onto the table.

"Something like this," she replied. Then suddenly she climbed up onto the table, sitting in a crouched position. After another moment, though, she phased through the table, disappearing underneath it.

Duo leaned back when she climbed onto the table, looking amused and confused. But then, when she moved though the table he burst out laughing and pushed his chair back to peer under it. "That's... that's awesome! It doesn't hurt to do that? Are you alright?"

Rising to her feet, she stood halfway through the table with a triumphant smile. "It can depend," she admitted. "If something is too dense, it can be difficult to phase through it. But this?" She walked out from the table effortlessly to stand beside it, then leaned one arm against it. "No problem."

Duo sat up with a delighted laugh when she just popped right through the damn table! This was, from his perspective, some damn fine magic tricks. But he also knew it was real. On his world this kind of stuff was unheard of outside of illusion tricks.

He shook his head and sat back in his seat, a broad grin spread across his lips. "Well, colour me impressed. That's definitely somethin I'd call a special ability!"

With a small laugh, she took her seat again. "Thanks. I wish you could meet some of the people I know back home. There are a lot of different kinds of abilities and powers."

"Wish I could too! Don't have anything like that back home." Well, nothing like that in any case. "Super powers? Nope, just normal people where I come from." Duo said with a grin. "Which sucks. Normal is so overrated. Think you guys have the right idea." A world where people had unique abilities? Sign him up! Though, if Duo really thought about it, he knew Fate could throw him a curve ball and he'd either end up painfully normal or with a special ability so boring he's be shunned by all the awesome people with abilities.

She shrugged a bit. "Not everyone in my world has powers. The majority of people don't. And there's nothing wrong with being normal."

Some days, she still kind of wished she could be.

"Normal is highly overrated." Duo repeated with a grin and went right back to leaning his arms on the table. "But that's still really amazing! Never thought I'd be able to see someone do a thing like that. This train is... really amazin like that!" The things he'd seen, the people he'd met, he never would have had the chance back home. Say what you like about the Voidtrecker, but at least in this respect, Duo was impressed with it.

"Can you do anything else or just the..." He gave a vague gesture with his hand. "... Slipping through things, thing?"

She nodded, because she had been enjoying getting to meet different kinds of people on the train. That had been one good thing about being here.

She thought for a moment, debating a bit before rising to her feet again. "Well...technically the stuff I can do is the same ability. But there's this..."

Coming around the table again, she concentrated a moment before taking a step, as though she was walking up the stairs. But her foot came to a stop without touching the floor, and as she stood she was hovering several inches off the ground.

Duo leaned back a little more to get a better look at Kitty when she moved around the table, wondering what she had planned to show him. When she took the step and just floated there, it took Duo a second to remember that this wasn't an illusion and she wasn't some magician doing tricks at his table.

"Holy shit! That's awesome!" He enthused and turned in his seat to get a closer look at the girls feet. "You're actually floating? Can you actually fly or... is it just this? ... I have never asked another person if they can fly before, This is wild!"

She laughed a bit, taking a few steps around while hovering over the ground. "No, I can't really fly. Even this can take a lot of concentration, and if I slip up even just a bit, I can fall. But I can control how fast or slow I move through the air."

She took a few more steps, like climbing up a couple more stairs to get a bit higher. Then she slowly descended until her feet touched the floor again.

Another low, impressed whistle and he was grinning from ear to ear. Duo couldn't get over how amazing this all was. There was magic on this train. People who could do amazing things. Kitty could walk through things and step on shit like there were real steps there!

"So that's why you go to a school, huh? To teach you how to control that more? So if you were still there... maybe one day it could seem like you were flying? You could run across the sky!"

Taking her seat again, she nodded. "Pretty much. The day I discovered my powers, it was because I had phased from my bedroom into the basement while I was sleeping. So being at the institute has really helped me with controlling and developing my powers. I definitely couldn't hover when I first got them."

She grinned. "So yeah. Maybe someday I'll be able to stay up in the air longer."

Propping his chin in his hands, Duo couldn't stop grinning. He had a million questions he wanted to ask, but he also knew 99% of them weren't going to be about Kitty and more about her world and the other abilities people had. And that just wasn't what you did when you were getting to know someone.

"I hope you can! I'm jealous, I gotta admit. Being able to do things like that... Guess it must have been scary when it gets away from you though, huh? Are there others here who can help you with developing them?" He didn't know anyone other than Danny who could move through things, and that was only because the guy was a ghost! ... It really was such a strange place to be.

"Yeah, it can be." She still had fears that she was just going to phase through the earth someday if she lost control. "But I know there's someone here who's from...a similar world to mine, I guess? He's actually familiar with how powers back home work, so I think I could ask him to help if I need to."

She couldn't imagine what kind of training she'd get from Creed, but it was nice to know that she had someone to turn to, at least.

"That's good news." Duo grinned broadly. "Nice you can maybe keep learnin more." Mainly because he was fascinated at what the limits were to a power like hers. Were there limits? She could float, so could she eventually fly? Or at least run at a height that seemed like flight? What about taking people and things, could she make those go through things? Damn but that would have been a neat power to have back when he was fighting...

"This is really amazing! I've never met anyone who can do what you do." He continued cheerfully.

She couldn't help a sheepish smile. "Thank you," she said. "I know there's someone who can...kind of do what I do? But it's done in a different way, I guess."

"Oh yeah?" Duo asked with interest. And then he blinked, thought about it, and leaned forward across the table slightly, expression curious. "... Not Danny, is it?"

"Oh, yeah," she says. "You know him?"

The grin was sudden and wide. "Oh yeah. I know him." He laughed and pushed himself back in his seat.

"Last mission I had to save his backside... twice. First time my hand went right through him. Scared the hell outta me!" Not that he'd shown it at the time. He'd needed to keep his wits about him. But finding out Danny was a damn ghost was... a weird thing. But once he'd heard his story he found it to be one of the funniest he'd ever heard. Duo still wanted to see ghost pirates.

She presses her lips together to keep from laughing. "I can imagine," she says. "I was pretty freaked out when I first discovered my powers. It can be weird for other people."

"When you come from a world like me, where this kinda stuff just doesn't happen, it's kinda weird." Duo said then, but then he started to grin again. "Luckily I'm a weird kinda guy. I love hearin about it!"
