Movie Night!

What: Sports anime movie night with popcorn!
Warnings: There shouldn't be! But I will add if anything comes up

POP, POPPOPPOP...

As announced by Romeo earlier that day, the cinema car has been prepared for a night of anime sports. There isn't much different at first glance, but by first whiff, those who recognise the smell of freshly popped popcorn may detect the new addition to the carriage before they see it set up on a table by the back wall.

There's a soft whirring with the faint pop, poppoppop of the corn kernels, which thankfully isn't that intrusive to the ears as most popcorn machines. Salt and sugar shakers sit next to bowls for people to take and dish out their own popcorn, as well as bottles of cinnamon and mixed (sweet) spice. Also, there's even paprika and hot chilli bottles right next to each other. Who put those there? Please shake sparingly. Or don't. It's your tastebuds on the line.

Jugs of juice from the kitchen have been set out with plastic cups for those looking for a drink, as well as a simple collection of chocolate chip cookies. There may or may not be enough for all, but probably not.

The entertainment won't start right away, so take this time to chat with one another!

BORN TO REVIEW

For this 'sports night', 4 episodes of an anime called Born To Blitz are being played, a comedy movie called Swing-It Like Seccam, and to finish it off, a sports-themed mystery of the beloved franchise Magical Detective Heartlines!

Born To Blitz is your standard sports highschool anime, but with a diverse extraterrestrial species and set on a 'coastal city' where all the buildings are domes. It's quick to lay out the story of its hero, Fax Qincan, who is trying out for the school's competitive blitzball team so that he can get a reputation and one day be a real blitzball professional. He gets a spot by the second episode (unfortunately, beating out his best friend for a place on the team), and now he must start his vigorous training before the school competitions start!

The live-action Swing-It Like Seccam is a similar deal, if less intense and offering more laughs! Follow Arla as she inspires to become a professional ping-pong player like her hero Seccam, but also as she has to deal with a disapproving family who don't take her dreams seriously. Touching towards the end, it can be confusing now and then due to a lot of pop culture references popular in Miyoon in the year 6k20nb.

And last but not least is Magical Detective Heartlines: Goal In Life, an anime movie of the beloved Heartlines as she solves her latest case in all her 80s style anime glory! Famous hoverball player--a sports played on hoverbikes that also bash around the animated balls into goals--Missie is being threatened to throw in their biggest game yet, or risk the life of their snatched beloved! It's up to Heartlines to find the culprit--but can she do it before the end of the match?

Of course she does, but not without suspense and the game being stretched out at the risk of Misse's life as well! And with a bop of a soundtrack, and plenty of glittery sequences. And let's not forget the magical girl transformation scenes. Romeo will show you the moves.

And with that, the Sports Night is over with, and what you do is ultimately up to you. Talk about the selection? Something else? Are you the sort of person who can't imagine leaving a mess, or are you rushing off with familiar faces?

Or maybe it'll be nice to go for a watch to stretch your legs, even get a drink. It's late, but the coffee and tea machines are what, only twenty-five carriages away, surely.

Just remember not to stay up too late! Got to avoid the void sickness.

( OOC: It's a fun little mingle! Have your characters bring their own food and snacks, cause some mischief, complain or be too loud. :) There will be small breaks between each showing and the blitz anime will be the same length as the movies altogether (so about 20 mins a piece).

"I could give her some ideas," Cassie says. "Don't think we'll have a $700 billion defense budget behind us like I do back home, but we can talk about what's possible."

Then a long pause.

"What do you mean, 'the boss?'"

[blitzcheer]

"Tony Stark. I didn't know we had any leader either, but," and he takes a pause as he has to think about that himself, "I don't know if he's meant to be the train leader, but I guess he set up the council, maybe."

But then again, maybe he was supposed to be some kind of train leader. That's how he got confused about him before, didn't he? Ignis speaking about the train leader, and the confusion that brought up.

[nutkrusher]

"Oh, right, him," Cassie says. "I've heard of him. I'd been meaning to talk to him before my mom showed up which was...distracting."

She reaches for more popcorn.

"For a moment I thought you meant somebody'd figured out who was really in charge."

[blitzcheer]

He'd comment on that, but really, there's something way more important--

"Your mom?" Tidus looks at her, blinking. Needing a second to think to say, "How is she?"

[nutkrusher]

"She...wasn't in great shape when she got here," Cassie says.

She sighs. The popcorn remains in her hand.

"By which I mean if the train hadn't taken her she'd be dead. She was wounded in a battle two years into my future. She's able to move with crutches now, but...

[blitzcheer]

"Oh-" That gets Tidus to lean some on his chair arm towards her, the halfhearted pretence of appearing to follow the show discarded as concern washes over him.

"So she's recovering? Oh, man...!" His voice is still hushed, the astonishment coming through no less. What do you say to that? It's great, but... wow.

[nutkrusher]

"Yeah. Finding her on the platform was...um. Definitely a thing."

A long pause. She finally takes a bite of popcorn.

"But yeah, kinda threw me off train business for a little. Spent a lot more time around the infirmary until she was able to move around on her own."

[blitzcheer]

"She don't like chocolate or anything, does she?" he asks with a weak smile. "You can take her some of the popcorn. It's great she's okay though. Well...going to be okay."

Is okay, better than the alternative.

"If you ever want a catch up or...know what's up later, lemme know. Biggest thing is there'll be a mission soon."

[nutkrusher]

"Pretty sure 'alive' is the word you're looking for there, chief."

She manages a weak smirk.

"I can bring her some chocolate if you'd like to give her some. But yeah. I could hang out. Could plan a screening of Ninja Mime. You could bring your totally-not-girlfriend along."

Now her grin widens to proper Cassie proportions.

[blitzcheer]

Was that to get him to sputter, 'cause congrats Cassie, that's exactly what he does.

"I...!" And to forget about volume control, looking around and then pushing into his seat to shrink some. Pulling up his bowl of popcorn.

"...she is my girlfriend now..."

mumble mumble don't even look at him, he's not going to look at Cassie, he's shoving a mouthful of popcorn into his gob.

[nutkrusher]

Mission. Fucking. Accomplished. Cassie is positivelycackling as she watches Tidus squirm and sputter.

She's still grinning widely when she finally catches her breath.

"Well, good, because you sucked at keeping it a secret. Have I met her?"

[blitzcheer]

Just bury him right in this chair! Actually, he already is pretty buried. Goodbye, Voidtrecker Express--

Oh, he isn't actually dead. Too bad.

"Ugh, I dunno. Her name's Yuna? I'll introduce you two if we ever bump into you together..."

Which he sounds utterly hesitant to do, close to mumbling again at the end.

"She was with Purple last mission I know, don't know if you met there. She's got guns and magic."

[nutkrusher]

Cassie looks up for a moment as she tries to recall the days of fighting in dank, watery caves.

"I wanna say I might have? I don't think we introduced ourselves, though."

[blitzcheer]

"Well I know she's keen with staying with Purple, so you might see her again. She's good to know--she can switch abilities at the drop of the hat, and she's a great healer. She had the lot of us covered back in her world."

It didn't stop him from learning too, but Yuna had him beat when it came to magic all over.

[nutkrusher]

"It would be good to know what all my teammates can do," Cassie says.

Beat.

"So how'd you meet? Did you know each other back home?"

[blitzcheer]

"Uh...yeah," he starts slowly, thinking of the simplest way of explaining. ...or maybe to ignore the prickle of embarrassment of telling Cassie. "I was her guardian--she was travelling around, praying at temples to defeat a fiend in the world. She'd get the power to summon, but she can't do that now. All the summons left when we finally figured how to take the fiend down."

And how funny it is to share that while on the screen, it shows the main character and his team going to check out a blitzball stadium in a city crowded with buildings side by side. Almost like...

"We met just before she went on her pilgrimage. I wasn't from the area, so I was just tagging along at first until--I was on the team officially."

[nutkrusher]

"Sounds like there's a lot more to the story," Cassie says. "The jock and the priestess. It sounds cute."

She grabs another handful of popcorn.

"I mean, apart from the monsters you had to fight. But maybe when I meet her you could tell me the rest of it."

[blitzcheer]

Okay, that remark isn't so bad. But man, the priestess and the jock? She gotta? Of course she's gotta.

"Sure, but I dunno how it'll match up to your life of different realms and action." Hah. "It's mostly Yuna's story to tell anyway."

Well...the chapters he'd be willing to touch on, for the most part.

[nutkrusher]

Indeed, she gotta. It's just how she do.

"Then I'll be sure to ask her," Cassie says.

She takes a bite of popcorn.

"To be honest, there are a lot of parts of my world you should be glad you missed out on."

[blitzcheer]

"What, it's not worth getting to see your dad's movies?" Tidus grins. Come on, what's a weird world filled or associated with evil wizards and tournaments and something else or other weird compared to missing those?

[nutkrusher]

Cassie chortles again. "I mean, maybe not all of them."

They don't like to talk about Dragon Fist 3: Son of Dragon Fist.
