Garden

As she so often is, Nerdanel can be found sitting in the garden, singing softly as she works on her sculptures. The first is now finished, standing no more than two hands tall, Maedhros looks up out of stone, almost as if he might speak at any moment. She works now on the second, but will not mind company.


Library

The library is new, and therefore interesting, and Nerdanel can be found at intervals browsing through the shelves curiously, flipping through books. Alternatively, she can also be found sketching - a bas relief is taking shape under her pencil - one of the train, by the looks of things. Feel free to interrupt her for a chat!

"They can be." She murmurs.

"Most mean well, truly. My father is on good terms with Aule Moutain-Maker, and I was raised playing at his feet. And my law-sister Earwen swims with Uinen of the Seas and Osse Storm-Bringer as do all the Royal House of Olwe. But those who Fell... well. Too many of my family have died at their hands."

"That's good at least that not all of them are so dangerous. So they have elemental powers?"

He's guessing based on their names.

"Say rather that they are the Powers." She nods. "They are the builders of the world, both sustained by it and sustaining it. We call Lord Aule the Mountain-maker, for indeed he built the mountains, but he is also the earth itself, as Lord Ulmo is the water and Lord Manwe the wind, and so on."

[gundamofthedesert]

"Oh, I get! So they are elementals as I think some version of mythogoly would call them in my world. That makes sense and also definitely why they'd be so dangerous if they decided they wanted to be hostile."

"Even so." She smiles wryly. "In truth, only The Enemy and his servants are truly dangerous, for they hate us. But a storm may do harm without intending to."

There is a reason Osse is respected, but most avoid him.

He smiled. "Yes, I could see how the maker of storms would be considered dangerous in his own way. Especially if the storm and ocean met. It's good that there are only a few and not all of them who have a problem with others in your world."

"There are seven of the Valar, and seven Valier." She nods. "They are ... I suppose you would say, the Great Powers. And there is one mightier than them all, but he is Fallen, and we know him now only as Morgoth, the Dark Foe of the World, and he is less mighty than he once was, for much of his power he sunk into the world and his servants, and so diminished himself. Their servants are the Maiar, and those there are very many, but few have dealings with us incarnates in forms we recognise, and so we do not know their true number. Amongst the Enemy's ranks they are his greatest and most deadliest of servants, but fortunately there are not so many of them now as there were."

"Oh, I see. That's terrible about the Fallen and his kind. It seems like there are always people in every world who fall victim to that sort of thing. But it is interesting to hear about." He chuckled. "Probably not as much to see."

"Definitely not to see." She agrees wryly.

"Of course, it makes for a very epic tale to tell, but not so much to live through. What about you?"

[gundamofthedesert]

Quatre thought about that. Something that he'd want people to know about his world.

"Right now it is peaceful, but only recently, my friends and I helped to end a war that threatened to take over both the colonies and Earth with the help of our mobile suits called Gundams."

[marriedanidiot]

"What are mobile suits?" She asks curiously.

[gundamofthedesert]

"They are robots. Kind of like this train, but they are shaped like a person. Essentially a very large suit of armor that you control from inside."

[marriedanidiot]

"Giant machines shaped like people? And worn like armor... my!" She blinks.

"That must be a sight. Are there very many of them?"

[gundamofthedesert]

"They are quite impressive. There are quite a few varieties of them. OZ made ones that were modeled after the signs of the Earth zodiac so the Cancer mobile suit looked like a crab and it was made for working underwater. Gundams were made from a material stronger than most mobile suits and were more versatile, but they still had their specialities."

"I see! So different versions for different jobs. Were there many Gundams?"

[gundamofthedesert]

"The short answer is that there were five Gundams. Now, we made upgrades to some of them, some were rebuilt after being destroyed, I had one built that was technically different from the one it replaced because it had a different way of operating. There were also some that were built by others not on our team that were made of Gundanium but they weren't necessarily on the same side as us."

She smiles at the 'short answer' part.

"I see - so in truth, there are a lot more than five? But only five official ones, at any one time?"

[gundamofthedesert]

"Well, originally, there was supposed to be one, but then they built five, which were the ones we were using. But five that were officially Gundams."

It really is a complicated answer so he's trying to keep it as simple as possible since to answer why there were more requires a lot more explanation.

"Oh dear that sounds very complicated!" She shakes her head.

"And if they're all specialised for different things, I imagine there's no one to look at one and see that it is a gundam?"

[gundamofthedesert]

"The Gundams were a different design from a regular mobile suit. But there two Gundams that specialized in long-range fighting, one medium-range, and two at short-range. Mine was short-range, but it was slower than the other one."

"Covered a multitude of uses then."

She nods. "Although I will say, I am surprised that folk would allow such a machine to be piloted by such young men - were there no one else to do so?"

[gundamofthedesert]

"They did."

Quatre chuckled slightly. "Desperate times really and we weren't exactly government sanctioned. We all had a scientist we were working with who built our Gundams initially. So I suppose it was partially timing and who we knew that we ended up fighting."

She makes a tsk sound.

"Oh dear... I am glad you were unharmed, in that case! It is a grievous thing that the young ones are forced to take the place of their elders."

[gundamofthedesert]

"We were injured at different points, but none of us died. We all had different reasons. Heero... that's basically all he knew and was trained for. Me, it was chance and I wanted to try and stop the violence in our world."

"Good!" She nods.

"A worthy goal - and one I hope you will see come to fruition."
