OTA - Ramen, anyone?

Who: Senku Ishigami, Gen Asagiri, Roland Crane and open, so very open!
Where: Kitchen
When: Horseshoe 17
What: Senku misses ramen, and so in tradition, he's making some and there's definitely enough to share.
Warnings: Shouldn't be!

Locked to Roland and Gen

Ramen didn't just make itself, and while he could cut a break, it seemed unlikely that Gen was going to leave well enough alone. He was pulling out ingredients for the broth and the noodles and he grinned.

"Glad you could make it." He addressed Roland with a smirk. "Time to pay up." He said with a beckoning motion of his finger. "Come on, I'll teach you how to make ramen."

He didn't know if Roland was familiar with it or not, but most people probably couldn't make it from scratch either.

OTA - Everybody come and eat!

It may not have been their turn to cook, but Senku didn't care because he was the one missing it the most.

The ramen that is being served has a light, brown broth from soy sauce and is actually quite tasty. Gen and Senku have had a lot of practice with substandard ingredients, and so making it with the real thing?

It's pretty decent. They went with shoryu ramen because it was the easiest with the ingredients on hand, mixed with some of the garlic and ginger that they picked up, as well as served with pork - real pork they picked up on the mission, not mystery bear meat.

Both Senku and Gen were helping to serve and dress the ramen, just like they might be at home.

[Ramen free for all, grab a bowl and Senku, Gen or Roland, or any combination of the trio above.]
adregem: (your plans are pretty good so far)

we shall see >:) he's a perceptive man!

Roland joins the duo, makes it a point to stay by Senku's other side so that they're still shoulder-to-shoulder as they take a sip of the broth. Roland decides to go last of course, out of courtesy really, and his eyes grow wide in surprise. For how simple the ingredients were, the taste was brought out well. He sucks on his spoon for a bit before nodding in agreement.

"Wow. It's delicious. Look at you two. The ramen will be a hit."

He won't double dip, but it warrants a second sip if he had a clean spoon again. For now -

"I have to work hard on the noodles. It's gotta compliment the star of the dish."

fun_thementalist: (smug knowing look)

Gen doesn't have as good of a poker face when it comes to Senku after all :D

Gen knew exactly how great those high-fives were. He happily accepted it, smiling brightly, and then quickly snagged some tongs so he could cook the noodles, just waiting on Roland. "Cooking the noodles is the fastest part, my dears. These are the freshest of fresh, so just a few minutes - and we can eat."

Roland making wiggly eyebrows at Gen one of these days

Roland wasn't at all aware of what that high-five meant apart from a job well-done, so he reciprocates simply, slapping his palm against Senku's at the same time as Gen does.

"I'll watch you cook them. We're going to be an assembly line of sorts here, right? Gotta make sure I'm doing my part when we're doing sampling the meal." And he's getting kind of excited about it too. When was the last time he's had something this close to home food?
fun_thementalist: (that's my line usually)

Roland might even get Gen to blush!

Gen turned his head to explain to Roland, "We've only just managed wheat, you see, and that's being used to bake bread. Bread is just more practical for long-term nutritional benefit, of course - especially when you've got a clever chef in your group."
adregem: (is that real information?)

sorry for the lateness you two! :(

"I see..."

And that of course, brings him back to the image of a different form of the end of the world - stone and petrification, all that good stuff Senku's already hinted at or outright told him. Gen, too, so the dots weren't difficult to connect. Resourcefulness paired with a desire for a good life for his citizens. This is what immediately comes to mind when Roland listens intently to both of them giving him an idea of how used they were to working with what they had.

The noodles are perhaps just about ready, when Roland pipes up again. "You two really are quite something, huh? Knowing how to do all this like it was nothing. People could learn plenty from your combined ingenuity."

it's all good! :D

"Most of this is really Senku-chan's genius," Gen claimed with a sheepish little grin. "I'm able to fill in some of his gaps in the social sciences, because whether he likes it or not, at times you just need a grasp of behavior and psychology."

He winked, teasing, while diminishing his role, of course.

Gen tapped his chin. "It doesn't help that we're more or less on an island, of course. It helps protect them from nastier wildlife, though, so that's the tradeoff! But I have to say, I'm almost missing fish with all of this teddy-bear meat ..."
adregem: (consider this...)

[personal profile] adregem 2020-11-02 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
He's unable to refrain from chuckling at that. "Heh. Don't I know that too. Maybe you and I should help Senku work on his small talk together. He hasn't had a lesson in a while from me." Of course, a joke. But half-meant; Roland's already aware that Senku's strengths are in a different field altogether and that's completely acceptable. For the most part, it was just fun to tease him about it from time to time.

"So, I'm guessing that island you're talking about is where you've settled as HQ?" Roland adds, busying himself with his bowl. Hard to eat when they're talking about something that catches his attention right away.
fun_thementalist: (allow me to explain!)

Roland's suggestion made him chuckle, too, especially once Senku groaned. "I find Senku-chan is an excellent conversationalist, I wouldn't change a thing about him. You have to remember, my friend, he's far more honest than me. Small-talk requires a certain degree of lies and blithely ignoring more important subjects."

Gen, too, was a chronic working-through-his-meals type of guy, so he also ate as he talked and gestured with his hands, bright and animated as his meal steadily disappeared.

"More specifically," Gen said, "we're talking about the village Senku been made the chieftain of. The observatory has been built just outside of it, all the better to use it for scouting, of course."
adregem: (the black knight is coming?)

daaaarting around the fourth-wall breaking for Roland, sorry for all the off-brand names!

Japan seemed awfully familiar to the other country in his own world - named differently of course, Jappon for him - but he's settled in on the idea that everyone onboard this train were so diverse, it would be foolish to assume they knew the same things as he did. Or lived in the same reality he was used to falling back on. Roland instead just listens well, and takes conservative bites as politely as possible. Not slurping, but drinking carefully from the rim of the bowl.

It's not the geography tidbits that get Roland to immediately try and swallow down his food, though. He blinks and is in slight awe at the realization. "You...built an observatory? That's amazing. And your village too, has it got a name?"

Technically, if Senku was made chieftain, that means he's their budding nation's leader. Just like Evan.

why have icon keywords if you don't mean them

[personal profile] fun_thementalist 2020-11-04 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was hardly involved," Gen claimed outrageously, but smiling and shrugging with a clueless expression. "You can see my arms, I'm not cut out for all that work building. Everyone in the village wanted to give Senku-chan something special."

Then, he giggled, eyes twinkling. "Yes, Ishigami Village is named after his family. His dad founded it, thousands of years ago. They talk about him in their stories. So for Senku to come back and lead them ... hmmm, if I make a King Arthur analogy, would you understand that reference?"
adregem: (swordsmanship is all about the gains.)

I'M SO SELECTIVE ABOUT HIS FOURTH-WALL INFORMATION HAHA

The ramen grows cold as he immerses himself in their tales. Besides, he's already halfway finished with it anyway, just wayward noodles left and some broth.

"Sure. You're talking about the sword in the stone story, right?" And if this was a talk on kings, well. Roland's got all ears on Gen now too, something relevant even to his own tale. He will for now, keep it to himself that it's a little sad how Senku woke a thousand years too late to meet his father who seemed to have made a village. The last bastion of humanity? Who knows.
