Hey look, it's a Tony log

Who: Tony and OTA
Where: Kitchen/ Dining car
When: Bassoon 4-ish
What: Tony's cooking meals, making treats, and generally trying to keep himself busy
Warnings: Irreverence and Language? The usual.

The last team had done a respectable job in the kitchen. He'd had few complaints during the last month. However, between himself and the rest of the red team, especially Feanor, people were going to be very well fed this month.

Even though there were plenty of cooks in this kitchen for the month, this particular day Tony had taken over the kitchen. He was only sort of sticking to the recipes he'd been given, preferring to use his own or make them up as he went (shocking, I know). Currently he had three dishes he was working on at once. He had some salmon he was curing to make lox, some gummy candy he was making, and the main dish for the evening meal- whole roasted salmon with herbs and farfalle pasta with asparagus and tomatoes. Thanks to Evie and Feanor, they also had sourdough bread to go along with it and a fancy Elvish dessert.

Off to one side, he had an eggplant out, ready to fix for certain individuals who saw fish and fled in terror.

[ooc: Feel free to catch him at any point of this meal prep, during clean up, or during the meal. Whatever, you guys know I'll tag anything.]

"You could say I know people in those ranks." Ignis replied smoothly. So he fixed Tony with a look as he got his coffee. "You seem an awfully curious sort." Did the other man take people apart just to see what made them tick and leave them alone? Was there some sort of point to the curiousity?

Use his words? Indeed. "You've no need to read me as you say." Ignis would never say he was important enough for something like that. "And I know full well you have a good heart. If not, we wouldn't be talking."

It's hard for him to take down his defenses having had them up for so long. So he took a sip of his coffee, the green eyes never leaving the other's face, trying to figure out why Tony was so interested. It made no sense.

"I could say that, but is that true?" This was almost bordering on a game to see just how he could pull information from this very quiet and mystery young man. The fact that he was good looking just made the task all the more enjoyable. "I wouldn't have to if you would answer questions and let someone get to know you. What's the hang up? Think of it this way, is there anything I could possibly do with the information to bother anyone from your home? No."

He shook his head and took a sip from the coffee. "Look, you're interesting. You tend to be enjoyable company. I'd like to get to know you. I have no ulterior motives here."

Ignis gave a good natured laugh and his face coloured somewhat as the dirty blonde head lowered. "It's indeed true." But then there was that insistence on getting to know him. Why? His eyes fixed again on Tony, trying to figure out what was going on. So he shrugged, and got another set of rags to work with when break time was over. "I'm merely another passenger on the train, the same as everyone else here."

He didn't want to stand out, especially not after where he'd just come from prior to boarding here. So Tony's comment of interesting got a slight push back. "I am certainly not interesting, though I appreciate your thoughts on the matter." If the older man truly believed that, then he must simply be confused, or bored or both.

Tony smiled back, pleased he could get a laugh out of the other man. He lowered his mug, ready to hear Ignis share something more with him and.. nothing. His smiled faded away, visibly disappointed by that answer.

Tony rolled his eyes at the rest of Ignis' dismissal and picked up his rag again. "Right. That's not an obnoxious answer at all." He'd thought they'd made a bit of progress with being friendly towards one another, but now he wasn't so sure. It wasn't like he was good at making friends, but he thought he'd been doing the right thing here on the train. "Alright, so no questions about your family, whether you dealt with high society.. you won't tell me why you're into cooking besides 'necessity' which we both know isn't entirely true since you clearly enjoy it."

After that long complaint, he considered what else was a very neutral topic that he could chat with Ignis about. That didn't last long before he was turning back around. "Is it me? I don't understand if you're feeling you have to be so guarded around me then why are you helping me clean? That doesn't make any sense." Whatever the words might be implying, his expression was purely confused.

Now Ignis is confused. "My answer is not obnoxious, unless the truth itself is obnoxious." Green eyes intently watched the other pick up his rag. Maybe he was making a mistake somewhere and the younger man shook his head. Why did Tony seem to be taking this personally? Why was that smile gone?

Did he close the distance between them? Did he give the other space? The other man was a puzzle and in the advisor's mind they were coming off like fire and ice. "I enjoy cooking for others and I have dealt with..high society I suppose you could say." He'd thought he'd stated the cooking part already but maybe it had simply been thought. This was him trying to play peacemaker and not have this turn into something bad.

He shook his head while a sigh escaped him. "I'm helping to clean because I wanted coffee. And good manners forbid me from simply walking past you and not at least offering to help." Ignis always ended up cleaning up messes either figuratively or literally.

"For the record I have no issue with you. But might I ask why my opinion of you seems to matter so much?"

"Your answers are cryptic, overly vague, and completely obnoxious," Tony snapped back. He crossed his arms over his chest. "I believe you are trying my patience on purpose sir. Is it really 'mannerly' to be so purposefully distant when someone is making an effort to befriend you?"

He rolled his eyes again at 'I suppose you could say'. What the hell? He wanted to strangle the young man. "And here I thought you were helping because.." He shook his head. He wasn't going to bother with that if Ignis was truly meaning to keep him at arms length like this. Still, it kind of hurt and immensely disappointing. He'd thought they'd made such a nice team on the platform. Although.. then he'd been an ass and hit on Ignis. Is that what this was about? Was he still mad about that? There wasn't much he could do if Ignis was still holding a grudge.

"Do you really need to ask that?" He tossed back in frustration. "I just told you! I like you. And you're being a grade A jackass about it."

That answer somehow passed right through Ignis' defenses. His eyes started at Tony and for long moments the advisor wasn't sure how to even respond. He even wanted to ask why him but he'd already had his answer though it made absolutely no sense.

"I hadn't realized your intent." Again he mentally asked Tony why he wanted such a thing. His shoulders and posture relaxed and he shook his head. "I'm sorry." Polished and cool was the way Ignis always came off, it was his armor. Now it seemed it was being asked of him to remove it from time to time as he had around the men back home.

The truth was that Ignis hadn't come here to make friends, this was a way to pass the time until he could get home back to Noctis and continue where he'd left off from. So when Tony asked his question in frustration, Ignis had an answering question but since it wasn't a nice one he let it go.

The advisor took one more look at the other. Tony was being a jackass too, but the advisor prided himself on having a calmer disposition. With his head slightly bowed, his tone lowered.

"If you would like to be friends, then please accept my apology for causing you to be angry."

Tony gives him an obviously frustrated look at being told he hadn't realized the intent. Just before he can ask anything else antagonistic, Ignis apologizes. The response has Tony completely thrown off guard. Finally, a bit of his smile comes back. Now that he was hearing it, maybe Ignis hadn't been doing it so purposefully.

The second apology is so formal, it was hard to keep a straight face, but at the same time, he could- or thought he could- feel the sincerity behind it. For that, he wipes his hands off on his pants, getting rid of a layer of filth only to add just a little sugar back on them and holds it out. "It's fine. I get this place is weird and it's hard to relax here. It's.. it's not that bad though, all things considered. I don't doubt you'd rather be home, but.." He looks around the kitchen and then back at Ignis. "Might as well make the best of it, right?"

It was hard to relax being in a new place with how badly Ignis wanted to go back to where he was needed and most useful. So he had nothing to say to Tony's putting into words as to how he'd been feeling.

As his eyes searched the others, the advisor wondered if he been so transparent. But then again maybe he hadn't been if he'd unknowingly frustrated Tony. It was hard to know who to trust having been on the run for so long from the imperial forces of Niflheim in order to to keep the king safe. So Ignis had trusted no one with anything personal for that reason including not filling out the survey questions. He was the cat in the room full of rocking chairs, searching for a safe place to just breathe a moment.

Hesitantly he took the other man's hand and this was pretty much the first real physical contact he'd had with anyone on board. Tony's hand was warm and Ignis tried a tentative smile with a slight nod.

"Of course."

"Don't hurt yourself with that enthusiasm," Tony joked, clapping Ignis on the shoulder with his other hand and flashing him a grin.

He stepped back so he could continue working again. They'd almost finished the counter and the section of floor Ignis had been working on. He sighed and moved to crouch down over another area. "What do you like to cook? That dish you made the other day was good."

What was Tony's deal with the touching him as he did? Ignis turned away, but it painfully reminded him of how he and Noctis interacted. Saying nothing he quietly picked up the rags and got back to work after thoughtfully taking one last sip of coffee.

Getting back down on the floor, he smiled at the compliment. "Thank you kindly. But as far as recipes go I can make a lot. Personal favourites range from a big game meat pie to salmon filet with garlic to chiffon cake."

An idea formed in his mind as it never seemed to stop working. But as long as they were on the topic, "What about you? What are your favourite things to make or eat?" The way to a man's heart was through his stomach. And while he wasn't after Tony's heart, food was a way that Ignis connected with people, by making their favourite things.

"What the hell is chiffon cake?" Chiffon was a fabric, wasn't it? "There's a recipe in there for kind of a salmon meat pie. I was thinking of giving it a try tomorrow." While he often tweaked the meals for one reason or another, that one had looked fine the way it was. At least this first time making it, he'd probably follow the recipe.

"Me? Cheeseburgers. Ground meat in a patty, grilled, with a bun, cheese, tomato, onion, all the fixings on top. There's a salmon burger recipe but.. " He shakes his head. "It's not the same." It did little to curb his longing for his old favorite. "I could make the french fries at least. Those are just potatoes cut into strips and fried with a little salt. It's simple but it's good. Morgan liked white chocolate macadamia nut cookies and Pepper liked sushi."

"I'll have to get the ingredients for the cake sometime and make it for you." That was easy enough to do. The salmon pie intrigued him but he wasn't going to offer to help, that was on Tony. He himself didn't want anyone else's opinions in his cooking, so he wasn't going to offer any to anyone else.

"I've had cheeseburgers." He also picked off all of the vegetables for Noctis then got promptly accused of spoiling the other by Gladio. It was just who Ignis was, he loved to spoil even if he would haughtily deny it. Shaking his head, he agreed to Tony's opinion. "No, they're two different meats, tastes and textures. One hardly qualifies as the other."

Digging a little harder at the egg mixture on the floor, the advisor listened. "I've never made those sort of cookies before, but I've made sushi." More like he learned to help Noctis do his chef job at a sushi restaurant, but the man still knew how. "I wonder if I can find a recipe."

Tony would feel similarly, especially if they started taking over the meal instead of simply helping with it. However, give him another week of this and he'd likely be happy to hand it all over to someone else.

At least they agreed on the differences between the two burgers. He also didn't get how people could say bean burgers and meat were the same. Yes, he had black bean and other bean ones that were good- but they weren't cheeseburgers.

"I'm assuming the part you haven't made before is the nut. If you've had cheeseburgers, you had to have had chocolate chip cookies before. The nut is just a soft white nut. I'm sure others would work as well." They wouldn't quite be the same but it wasn't like Morgan was here to spoil. "What about you? What's your favorite?"

Tony went on about cookies and Ignis had chocolate chip ones but. "I haven't ever made cookies at all strangely enough." Frowning he wondered why that was but it was a thing he hadn't done. "I will have to remedy that."

Looking over at the older man, he shook his head. "I've only had the ones you've mentioned. So I'm afraid I can't comment about a favourite." Standing up, he moved to rinse his soiled dish rags. The other was still cleaning and Ignis smiled.

After making two fresh cups of coffee, he knelt down in front of Tony with the one designated for him. "Thought you could use another."

"Trust me, these kids around here have plenty of sweets if you'd rather spend your time doing something other than making cookies. That isn't to say you aren't welcome to do so." He hasn't his head and gives Ignis a playfully exasperated look. "That wasn't cookie specific. Come on, tell me one tiny fact about you. What's your favorite food? How much damage can I do with knowing that about you?"

He'd gone back to scrubbing about halfway through that, so was surprised when he was suddenly being offered a fresh cup. He gave the young man a smile. "If you're trying to charm me with your coffee making skills, it's working. Keep it up."

"It's not a bad thing to learn something new." At least that was as far as he saw it. But then again, Tony had him laughing at wanting to know about him because it was both flattering and adorable so Ignis tried to keep a straight face but was failing. "I've told you three of my favourite foods." He then shook his head, trying to figure out what to say because to him he was just boring. "Two other facts are that I am an early riser and I was sworn to protect our leader at seventeen." Really, he has no idea what to say.

The head went down and Ignis felt his face go red though he was trying to hide it. "It's simply coffee, nothing more."

"No, unless it's about you, right?" Tony returned with an amused grin. "So big game meat pie, salmon filet with garlic, and chiffon cake?" That was quite a range of tastes, but he could respect that. He had plenty of other favorites, not just burgers. Doughnuts were definitely on his list too.

He listens as he cleans to the details Ignis was willing to share about himself. "Yeah? Do you like yoga? I started off doing it by myself and now I've got a small class of morons copying me." If it were possible the word 'morons' really did sound affectionate.

"Hmm, right," Tony almost purrs as he takes another sip. "So you're not trying to get in my pants?" He teases and gives Ignis a wink.

Ignis shook his head with a smile at Tony's question but then returned one of his own as the other rattled off the foods. "Are you memorizing this?" It was a delight though to learn things about people though he was still trying to not get attached.

"I've not tried yoga." was the reply and he was about to say more but then Tony talked about morons copying him. Well so much for that thought even though the teasing sounded affectionate. "Adoring fans seem suitable." If the older man's pushing to be friends was anything to go by that was. "Besides, imitation is the highest form of flattery."

The advisor turned a few shades of red at the pants question and stood up to turn around. "N..no that isn't my intention at all."

"Would it make you more comfortable if I pretended not to be so interested in our conversation?" Still nothing but a playful tone, despite the fact he was still curious about why Ignis was so private.

"You should stop by sometime in the morning. I can see if I can lose the crowd for a day so I can focus on just how bendy, you are." Ignis was just so fun to tease. He was really enjoying those particular shades of red on his face. "And if I claim to be disappointed?"

He really wasn't sure what Tony was up to but he just shook his head with a smile. "That's flattering." Maybe after he got out of the kitchen tonight, he'd be just another topic and person best forgotten.

Ignis turned and coughed at the bendy part. And this was the part that he wasn't going to admit that he could do back flips in battle. Nope, not mentioning it at all. He had noticed that Tony hadn't debated the wanting to be surrounded by adoring fans comment either.

Trying to lose the red face, the advisor figured he'd try to stop this and looked at Tony. "I bet you use that line on everyone." There, that should stop it, right? He hoped so and went back to the floor to scrub at it.

"If I made that salmon pie thing tomorrow night, would you care to show off your garlic salmon for lunch? I'd like to see how you make it if you don't mind an audience." He pauses and looks at the progress they'd made. "Actually.. I'm hungry now. What do you need for that?" He went toward the fridge to get Ignis a filet they could fix.

He looks up at Ignis surprised at his response. Taking a second to think it over, he shrugs. "There was a point in my life that would've been true." He decides not to put too much light on that topic and turns back to the food. He might joke about it, but he hadn't actively been a playboy ever since his epiphany and got serious with Pepper. And now she was gone. "Looks like there's some asparagus. God, I'd kill for some lemons."

"I'd be delighted." Ignis replied, happy that his cooking skills would be showcased. And then Tony was dashing off onto another project while he worked on the floor some more. That was like Noct too, done with one thing and immediately off to another.

Amusement lit his green eyes as he heard the other was hungry. "If you give me a moment, I'll cook." And here's the chef and servant, off to help. Getting off the floor, he starts cleaning himself up. Afterwards he grabs his cup of coffee and then sets to work to get dinner made. Honestly, why hadn't Tony eaten earlier?

At least the bluster had ceased and he focused on dinner prep. "If you want the asparagus grab it, I'll cook it too." Here Ignis was in his element, and he grabbed some of the garlic he'd seen to get that ready. Fortunately he'd asked around about how to cook asparagus. So he grabbed some of the bacon, garlic and cheese for the vegetable.

Once all was assembled, he left everything out and moved out of the way. "Is there anything I shouldn't use?"

He had a little bit, but he'd been more focused on serving everyone else. Either way, he just really wanted to see Ignis cook. He didn't entirely know why that was, but it just was.

Tony looks down at himself while the young man cleans himself up and groans. "I doubt anything is going to help me besides a shower." Either way, he washes his hands and arms up to his elbows. He smirks and looks at Ignis at that question. "No. I've yet to find anything I'm allergic to. Although I might have to look at you funny if you add powdered sugar."

Moving to grab the asparagus and salmon, more prep is done and everything has a methodical order to it. Being used to cooking enough food for four grown men was more than adequate training grounds for this kitchen.

The garlic was cut peeled and minced. The bacon was ready to get in the frying pan, and the salmon was arranged in the pan. Cheese was then getting ready so it would go over the fish and veggies later. Asparagus was then washed. Grabbing some oil, Ignis started getting everything ready to start cooking, hoping Tony was hungry.

A slight smile appeared at the powered sugar comment. "Id only use it if I needed to sweeten your disposition." This was him throwing a pun out there as he used to do that with Noct so it was a sort of familiarity. Tony couldn't know the significance of the gesture, and Ignis wouldn't tell him.
