Day 19 - Time for a Wedding

Who: Lan WangJi, Wei WuXian and anyone else who wants to attend!
Where: Garden carriage and then gym car
When: Day 19 of Egret
What: Wedding! Wedding reception and lots of food.
Warnings: Pretty much up in the air. But there will likely a lot of PDA's from the wedding couple during the reception... because that's how they roll

Finally, it was Day 19, the day that WangJi and WuXian had chosen for their wedding.

Ceremony
Inside the garden, everything had been decorated in red and gold, traditional colors for a wedding in China. There were flowers and a low table set up.

As the ceremony begins, Lan WangJi and Wei WuXian enter with Lan Sizhui and Wen Qing as their attendants. The wedding clothes for WangJi and WuXian are also red, with designs of forest animals in the designs sewn in, including frogs and rabbits. All of this was courtesy of their friendly neighborhood spider. WuXian was also wearing a red veil over his hair and face. Even WangJi’s ever-present forehead ribbon was red today instead of white.

As the pair approached the table, WuXian on one side and WangJi on the other, they alternated bowing to each other three times before kneeling. With the help of their attendants, they each drank a cup of tea, which they used their long sleeves as though hiding that they were doing so behind them. Once they had put the cups down, WangJi reached up, pushing the veil back so that he could see WuXian’s face before removing the forehead ribbon he’d been wearing. Taking WuXian’s hand, he used to make kind of a loose knot between their two wrists, a Gusu Lan symbol that WuXian was his fated partner. Then as they carefully stood, WangJi leaned in to kiss WuXian before they both bowed to their attendants, thanks for assisting them and being there for them.

Reception
Following the wedding ceremony itself, the party then moved to the gym car, where the reception and feast were being held. Like the decorations for the wedding, it was also a lot of red and gold. To those who didn’t know beforehand, it would likely be obvious that red and gold here very important.

Lots of food cooked by wonderful volunteers from the train. Of course, there had to be dessert, which was the cake baked by the couple’s son, Lan Sizhui.

As the wedding couple, they were rather happily seated together of course. WangJi had since replaced the forehead ribbon on his head, but there was a high likelihood that sometime during the party WuXian was going to end up wearing it around his wrist.

Misa OTA

Misa likes weddings. She'd spent a good couple of hours on the couple's hair. She's really proud for how it turned out. Simple hairstyles are always the hardest.

Then, she went and did herself. Her dress is not quite what she'd been looking for - she's still mad about her white dress - but it's very much what she's used to be seen in. She's still plotting out her second auction dress, but that might be on hold.

She stands, waiting for Joss before she goes in. She likes Joss, and he'd asked her to wait. She doesn't fidget, just holds her hands in front of her, and waits. But she'll gladly talk to whoever stops by.

And here is one of the reasons Joss is late, Romeo looks much neater and stylish than he usually ever does. Since Joss had objected to the outfit he had put together and found him a new one. Joss was a good friend! And new way more about clothes than Romeo did.

He waves at Misa. "Hello miss! That's a pretty dress!"

Joscelin runs up behind Romeo, admiring his handiwork. Romeo cleans up quite well, all things considered, especially given that he'd originally wanted to go to the wedding in something that looked like lederhosen and a sombrero. But it had taken a rather long time to convince his best friend that he looked ridiculous, and even longer to attempt tying a full Windsor knot on someone else. Eventually Joss had given up, done Romeo's tie on himself and then handed it over, and quickly dressed himself. Even with his new glasses on, he looks rather dapper.

"Sorry we're late!" he says to Misa. Then he really sees her and his cheeks go a bit pink. "You look quite nice today. Shall we?" He awkwardly offers her an elbow (she's almost a full head taller than he is), and the three of them enter the wedding party.

She smiles at Romeo. "You look very handsome, the both of you." She says, curtseying to the pair. She doesn't have heels on, if only out of deference for Joss being a bit shorter than her.

But she slips her delicate hand onto Joss's elbow. "I think this will be fun, don't you?" She says, as they step into the wedding. She's looking forward to seeing her handiwork and Kumoko's together.

Joss looks great as well! He was really good with clothes and even Romeo had to admit that the outfit Joss had picked for him looked better than the one Romeo had put together!

He grins at them both and copies Misa, as she seemed to know what she was doing. He linked his arm with Joss' free arm even if it was a bit clumsier than just holding hands.

"It will be lots of fun! I never been to a wedding before!"

Romeo is absolutely being the third wheel.

Joscelin absolutely doesn’t give a fuck.

After several torturous days of thinking his best friend was gone forever, he’s happy to have the other boy hanging off his arm, even if it is rather damaging his efforts to look dashing and debonair for a certain pretty girl.

“I don’t know what to expect,” he admits to her, leading all three of them into the garden car, “but it’s a rather pleasant change from the usual, isn’t it?”

He smiles at Romeo. “It’s been at least a hundred years for me. Vampires don’t get invited to weddings very often.”

Misa shakes her head. "There are a lot of different cultures. It's all a matter of which one the pair, or more, belong to." She's never been to a wedding either, but she's watched them and read about them! That counts, right?

"I've only seen holos of weddings, never been to one." She shrugs. People in her profession don't get married. That's just the way it is.

"Well they should." Was Romeo's only answer to that. Joss should get invited to all the weddings.

"What's a holo? I went to a party about a wedding once, but it was before the wedding. Not the wedding bit... They were going to get married later but then I think one of them disappeared... So they didn't." Which was sad. Hopefully that won't happen here, even if Lan Wangji had already disappeared once and came back with no memories.

“Vampires have a nasty habit of eating people,” Joss points out blithely. “Rather bad luck at a wedding.” He’d singlehandedly decimated an entire wedding party in the seventeenth century then staged it so that the locals would blame the Roundheads.

The Civil War had been fun.

“What’s a holo?” Joss asked Misa, exactly in time with Romeo.

It's been a long, long while since Inigo talked to Misa. But he does faintly recognize her from that time they spoke on the platform, even though it's such a long while ago. And while that conversation was confusing as all hell, he still gives her a smile when he spots her standing there by himself like that. He's using one hand to keep his outfit closed at the top, slightly self-conscious... He's just not used to clothes being this loose!

"Are you here by yourself?"

She curtseys to Inigo, wondering if he's been avoiding her, or just busy with other things. "You look very handsome, Inigo." She says, wondering why he's clutching the top closed like that. "And no, just waiting for Joss. He said he wanted to go in together." And she doesn't mind at all.

[flatteries]

It takes less than a second after he hears that compliment for his cheeks to faintly start turning pink. Apparently someone here is weak to compliments. He may have been smiling already a moment ago, but the smile turns into a wider and slightly dumb grin by now.

"Thanks. I mean.. not that I don't always look handsome!" Not such a great save after looking super touched at the compliment only a moment ago, Inigo.. "You're looking nice too though. Seems like he's scored himself a lucky date!"

Did she say anything about it being a date? Nope. Inigo's just assuming.

She blinks and steps back. "I am absolutely not Joss's date." She says, firmly. "I am not old enough." Date, in her world, means something completely different, and she will hold that line, hard. She's not old enough and won't be until she's sixteen. She doesn't plan on being here, when she turns sixteen. There isn't the proper facilities, firstly, and secondly, no one here could afford her.

"Do you have a date for the evening?"

[flatteries]

That, in turn, makes Inigo blink in surprise as well. What, did he say something wrong? He'd be able to understand if it was because she doesn't like Joss in that way, or if she's embarrassed about the idea, but then she adds the part about her not being old enough and he's just super confused. Is there an age limit for dating? No one ever told him?

"Uh..."

It sure makes that last question confusing! Hence his hesitation in answering: "Y.. es..?"

He knows he has a date by his standards, but he's not sure if it fits in with whatever odd standards Misa may be thinking of.

"I'm here with my boyfriend, if that's what you mean."

She wonders what has him so flustered. She'd merely been firm about her escort for the evening. Both she and Joss were far too young for the implications of a 'date'. Plus, she refuses until she's sixteen.

"I didn't know you had a boyfriend." She says politely, deciding that explaining what a date means will just cluster Inigo.

[flatteries]

Thank you for saving Inigo's brain that, Misa.. At least her only politely answering that seems to calm him down a bit. There's still a hint of something slightly more awkward than usually about him, but he smiles.

"It's a recent development," he admits. "I met him here on the train. And.. well, you know."

Inigo pulls his shoulders up into a shrug, the smile on his face getting a little stronger and more genuine.

"Might as well find some love while we're stuck here anyway, right?"

"Recent hmm?" She smiles. "I'm glad you found someone. Who is it?" They're such a small community that it's only polite curiosity. As for love.... Well, that's not for her. She's to be a courtesan. She's to be head of a House. Love can only get in the way and lead her somewhere terrible.

Curufin hasn't been to a wedding ceremony since his own, all those many centuries ago. But he likes celebrations, and he wishes the loving couple well. He's dressed in a trim burgundy suit, and he brought his flute to play during the ceremony and after.

He sees Misa and comes to say hello. "Misa! You're looking very lovely. Are you enjoying the party?"

"Yes, it's quite a spectacle, isn't it?" She asks. But it's a good spectacle and she wishes them all the luck. It makes her a bit wistful, in that she wants someone to look at her, the way the pair looks at each other. But, she needs to push that aside, and remember who she is.

"Are you going to be playing for the couple?"

"It is a lovely spectacle, with all these costumes from different worlds. And I always did like the color red, though I chose a much more muted version of it. But you look very nice in your silvery dress." It's easier and more pleasant to give compliments, express pleasure in this celebration, and wish the happy couple every joy. Easier than to think of his lost lover in the world he lived in before he came to the Voidtrecker.

"Yes, I'll be playing for the wedding couple. I'm honored that they let me. You had some part in making this celebration a joyous one, did you not?"

She curtsies at the compliment. "Thank you. You look rather dashing." She says, smiling. She giggles and nods. "They let me do their hair. Which was very kind of them, but it's my understanding from the holos at home that pampering should be part of a wedding." She worries her lower lip. "Right?"

He grins and bows in response to her curtsy. "Thank you!" he says, pleased that his efforts to look presentable have paid off.

"Just looking at the wedding couple, I can tell you did a wonderful job of dressing their hair for this occasion. I agree, they should be pampered. I think that's the point of this sort of celebration -- a chance for everyone to shower love and approval on the happy couple."

"Approval?" She asks, cocking her head to the side. Approval is an odd word choice in her opinion.

"Is there someone here that wouldn't approve?" She asks, cautiously. She wonders if someone would cause trouble. She certainly hoped not.

Given the history of Curufin's world, and its insistence on pretending that such unions never happened, the word makes a lot of sense to him.

"I don't think anybody on this train would disapprove. But I don't know for sure what Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji experienced in their own world. I rather think that their families would not have approved, and so our welcoming of their choice to love and our celebration of their union might be a bit of an antidote to past sorrows."

"Really?" She asks, completely surprised by that. Not that all systems accepted same sex couples, but the majority of them did, and it was written into the New Republic laws that they were to be left alone.

"But why wouldn't their families approve?" Because they're both men? No, can't be that, that's ridiculous.
