Having taken Evie's class and learned how to use the stove, Glorfindel was able to take part in his Team's chores of preparing the meals. Although, technically, that was what some of the more experienced cooks did. Glorfindel was more of a sous chef (chopper of things). Today he was making some quick, portable snacks that people could come and take with them if they wanted to go to the gym or the library or elsewhere on the train.

[What do people want? Come and ask! You might not get what you hope, but it will be interesting!]

He has also made an concerted effort to go through the kitchen and sharpen every blade in the room, except the butter spreaders.

She bubbles laughter at the thought, checking to make sure the batter is the right consistency.

"Perhaps we should! He might be somewhat alarmed, I feel!"

"At the cake or the discussion?" Glorfindel asks with an answering laugh. He remembered what he'd been taught recently and checked the recipe to find out what to set the oven to. It was strange not baking in a fire lit oven, but it was probably best not to have a live fire in such an enclosed space.

She echose him

"Both, possibly!"

She notes his interest in the oven.

"Tis an innovative design, no? I must see if we can design something similar at home!"

"Both, definitely!" He said with a laugh.

"Extremely so. I took a class when I first got here...only days ago, now that I think about it, but Evie showed me the various items and how they work." He shrugged. "It doesn't take as long to heat and stays constant, so I can definitely see the appeal. But I'm not one to try to tell Elrond's cook and kitchen staff what to use!"

She smiles.

"Oh, well, dear Elrond can do as he pleases, but I want one of these for myself!"

He started and shook his head. "I forget that I am no longer a member of his household. He left for Aman, and I remained behind to watch over his sons and daughter."

"Perhaps I might come for a visit when we both return, and see if you can make me one too, then."

"I am glad that he could trust you with that." She smiles. "He seems like such a nice boy. He deserves good friends."

[laurefindil]

Glorfindel grinned. "He hates it when I call him that, but he really is a nice boy. His sons are so much like him, though I think he fears they might take after his brother. But having helped raise them, I do not feel that their hearts lay as their sister's does."

"I could tell you stories about when we were setting up Imladris though," he shook his head fondly. "You might get flashbacks to when your own boys were growing up, however."

"He is!" She smiles. "And he should be used to us old elves referring to him so, I am sure."

His offer brings a delighted smile. "Oh, but I would love to hear those tales! There is so much of Middle-earth I do not know."

"Well then," Glorfindel finishes mixing the icing and sets the bowl down. "We have time while this bakes. How about I tell you a story now? Give me a topic and I'm sure I have one on it. Oh, such as the time we tried to bake a cake for Erestor. That was pretty early on. By Yavanna, we didn't know what we were doing enough to realize we were missing ingredients."

"Oh dear! I hope you did not forget anything important?"

LOL, I was giving you an out, but now....

"Well, apparently you need something to make the cake rise. It was...very dense. Not as dense as those who made it, though. And it was sweet. Very, sweet, as we covered any flaws with fresh honey." Glorfindel laughed at the memory. "Our hands were sticky and we were covered in flour. That was...such amazing fun, thinking back on it. But we were so annoyed at the time."

"Oh no!" She laughs. "Oh dear me. Well, at least you had fun."

She shakes her head. "And the honey too! Was it edible at all?"

I am super happy, as I like tagging with you too!

Glorfindel shook his head and laughed some more. "It was both fun and quite annoying. Elrond made this...face. I cannot do it justice, but it was kind of like," he looked sort of serious, but with a distinct line between his eyes, and then snorted just a little, "no, no, I cannot do it right." He laughed and waved his hand to wipe out the attempt. "He was trying so hard not to be upset, though."

"Quite, actually. Though, again, super sweet. The dense cake soaked up all the honey. It was even better the next day, to be honest," Glorfindel said.

She laughs, unrestrained.

"Oh no, that poor sweet boy! And it must have been almost as hard as candy, by then surely?"

"Not with the amount of honey we added. Did I imply we used a spoonful?" He laughed and picked up the container of honey on the counter. "We used twice this amount. It pooled around the cake. Which was only about yay thick," he gestured with two fingers. I want to say it was Erestor's idea to treat the honey like icing, but if he were here, he might claim it was mine," he admitted with a grin.

Erestor says DONT YOU BLAME THIS DISASTER ON ME YOU GOLDEN HAIRED MENACE

She laughs and laughs and laughs.

"Oh no! Oh dear, oh dear. Well, at least it would have been a very sweet treat! You should have put it in the icebox, to freeze the honey!"

Look, he isn't here, so Glorfindel gets to tell the stories HIS way! :D

It was so nice to hear laughter like that again. Things had been so serious of late that Glorfindel just wanted to tell her all the silly stories so he could laugh with her for a while.

"Oh, no, the stickiness was part of the fun. Right up until we had to round up the chickens..."

"Chickens?" She asks, still giggling over their baking. "Why were there chickens involved?"

Nooooooo! Not paperwork!!

"We were setting up Imladris, as I mentioned," Glorfindel reminded her. "We were trying to get the buildings started, talking the trees into helping with the walls, and, at the time, Erestor's decision to bring chickens along, to help augment the hunting, seemed like an excellent idea. But originally we only had baskets for them, which of course we couldn't keep them in them during the day, they needed to eat and stretch their legs, so they were running around loose."

ALL THE PAPERWORK also they needed those chickens or would you like him to refuse to serve you eggs

She raises a hand to her mouth, although it does nothing to hide either her smile or the laughter in her eyes.

"Ai! Why were you chasing them while covered in honey?"

"If they'd been the ones covered in honey it would have made things so much easier!" Glorfindel said with a wink. "But we were getting ready to clean up after eating when one of the dogs barked and that set off the chickens, which up until then had been peacefully pecking and scratching around us." He shook his head at the memory. "One flew right in Lindir's face. He of course was immediately concerned about his harp and started yelling, which just made things more noisy, so the birds, rather than settling back, just got that much more riled up."

She laughs again, unable to help it.

"Oh dear! And Lindir... he's young Elrond's Master Harpist, yes? Oh my. And did you have a rooster too?"

[laurefindil]

"Of course! You don't get more chickens without a rooster, just more eggs," Glorfindel pointed out. "Which Erestor pointed out to Lindir, the Master Harper, yes, who wanted to wring the thing's neck whenever it would try to..." he paused a moment to try to find the right word, but nothing came to mind, "sing along. By Yavanna's good grace the rooster survived, but he and Lindir had this strange relationship. I think he considered Lindir his god or something, the way he followed him around all the time."

She giggles, clearly seeing what he wants to say.

"Oh dear. Poor Lindir! At least he would never have needed to worry about sleeping in?"
