Event: Abort! Part Two (day 25, Egret). Luggage carriage

They are on world world#27462947582 for about five hours, helping, ushering people out of the city, fighting monsters, keeping guard. All seems well in the city itself, peaceful even except for the slight panic of people being told to move south.

Wherever they are, north in the desert, travelling through the countryside to the south or still in the city itself they will notice from their peripheral vision a darkening of the sky. Looking up they will see clouds. Strange clouds, appearing in the blue sky out of nowhere.

Their SCA’s start beeping, rapidly, flashing red. The clouds are too weird to be clouds, dark shapes in the sky. It might be that the Voidtreckers heed the warning and tap their SCA to evacuate to the train. It might be that they do not.

If they don’t then there is a moment, a moment of absolute stillness as those around them notice the shapes. A confused pause. Children stop their chatter, people stop their complaining, even the monsters seem to sense something and pause in their attacks.

The remaining voidtreckers are yanked away, even without pressing their SCA, they glow gold and disappear.

They all appear in the luggage carriage and not even a second later, with no warning the train lurches, flinging everyone off their feet as it enters the void.

It’s not really easy to tell speed in the void, but they will get the sense that they are moving fast. Faster than before, leaving that world and whatever those shapes were behind.

Glorfindel thought about the long years behind him in both of his lives, of how many he still remembered when he last saw them, and how much he missed them. "I guess that's why Men tend to write things down more." Not that his people didn't, but Men were quite proliferate.

"It would make sense." She agrees. "I do wish I'd met more of them. Tuor is a lovely fellow, but he tells me himself he is hardly typical, and really, you'd barely know he wasn't one of us."
laurefindil: (Default)

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-03 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Typical, no, but Aragon was very much like him, in all honesty. But then again, Tuor is one of his ancestors too. I mean, if you think about it, Arwen married her cousin, a few times removed. Takes some of the romance out though." Glorfindel said. "Elrond really didn't like it when I brought that up. Often." He looked to the side as if innocent of any wrongdoing.

She smiles a little at that.

"Ai, but our family tree begins to look extremely tangled! Poor Elrond, doubtless he did not wish to be reminded!"

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-04 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Glorfindel nodded. "Very much so. Well, it was okay to mention when Aragorn did something well, 'hey, your umpteenth great-nephew is doing great!' But when it came to romancing his daughter, not so much. Tsk. You would think they were a much closer relation, like some other elves."

Nerdanel raises an eyebrow at him - yes, yes, the family secret.

"True. Ah, but love when found can move mountains. I am glad they were happy, although I grieve with Elrond."

More like, that's fine for OTHER elves, but not my DAUGHTER!

"As do we all," Glorfindel said. "Celeborn is not sailing until after she passes. It was an easier choice for him since he is Sindar and has never been to Valinor, but I know he misses Galadriel more and more each day."

Alas, poor Elrond~

"Then she will have family, that is good! It will be a grievous parting, but having kin will make it a little kinder. I do hope to meet Lord Celeborn - Artanis was such a wilful child tis something of a shock to meet her as a Lady in her own right! And I have met young Celebrian, who is an absolute gem. I cannot but imagine her father must be someone special."

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-07 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Glorfindel nodded. "She has me...or had. She has her brothers, as well. We don't want her to be alone when she dies, since she will outlive Aragorn, and possibly her own children."

"He is!" Glorfindel assured her. "I mean, even without meeting him, look at the evidence. He won Galadriel's heart and has been married to her for over two Ages. They met in Doriath, which was where he was from. Having met him personally, he comes by the sobriquet 'the Wise' honestly."

Nerdanel makes a pained noise at the thought.

"Ai! That poor girl. I am glad she will have family with her."

Elrond still won't speak of Elros to anyone, so far as she knows, not even to Elwing and Earendil, who must long for news of their long-sundered children. Gil-galad, perhaps, but as isolated as she is, she seldom knows the latest gossip.

She smiles. "He does sound very wise. I do hope he does not stay away too long! I suspect she misses him more than she lets on."

"Once she...afterwards, we do intend to sail and go to Valinor and make sure that the twins are reunited with their mother...and father. Then there will probably be a lot of sharing. Whether the stubborn one wants to or not, because he will need to introduce his sons to everyone.

"Only until Arwen doesn't need him any more. I suspect he misses her a great deal as well. I've gotten to know him a bit better since they sailed. He even shared his Cheese Doriath recipe with me, you know."
marriedanidiot: (wisdom)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-08 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
She nods.

"I am glad... poor Celebrian as well! It is hard on a mother, to know she will not see her children again."

And who knows that better than Nerdanel, after all, whose own children may never return from the Halls, and whose husband almost certainly won't.

"Cheese?" She tips her head curiously.

Changing to a far more amusing and uplifting topic, Glorfindel nodded. "Curufin and I made some the other day. I think the Train translates it to Cheese 'Danish', whatever a Danish is. It is a recipe from Doriath, and is a big favorite of Celeborn's. Although, honestly I don't know if it is *his* favorite or Galadriel's as she would always claim half of every one he made, before she sailed. It was very nostalgic for him, making them, but I don't know that he ever ate one, come to think of it..."

"Did you not get any? I can make some more," he said, gesturing at the kitchen.

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-09 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
"I did not." She tips her head curiously.

"Only if you have the time! I do not wish you to put yourself out! But it does sound very interesting, and the story is very sweet."

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-09 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
Glorfindel pretended to give it some thought. "Let's see, I don't have Council meetings, I don't have fighter practice, I don't have training, I don't have patrol, I don't have paperwork, I don't have....well, I have fewer friends here," his voice almost caught on that one, "and we're not like the humans who need to fall unconscious for 1/3 of the day. I think I have the time."

He smiled at her. "Care to join me in the kitchen or sit here and think thoughts until I return?" He finished his cup of tea and stood.

She reaches over to squeeze his hands.

"Thank you." She says sincerely. "I am glad to have met you here, and I would be glad to join you."

Glorfindel blushed faintly, visible even despite the glow. "Then, my Lady," he swept her his most courtly bow, "Let us bake."

He offered his arm to walk to the kitchen.

She beams at the manners, answering him with a curtsy straight out of the highest courts of old Tirion.

"My lord, lead the way."

Once in the kitchen, he offered her a prime viewing spot, though close enough she could help if she got tired of watching.

With a now experienced air, he started the oven to pre-heating, then got out the items he would need. "We have ingredients to make more than a few. Shall we make a large batch?"
marriedanidiot: (working hard)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-12 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
"We might as well." She sits as primly as if she sat in the High Queen's chair, but her eyes are eager - a new skill, a new experience... Nerdanel is many things, but in this she is as Noldor as they come.

"I am sure others would enjoy sampling."

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-12 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Mm, if we leave any," Glorfindel said with a wink. First he mixed the yeast with milk he'd warmed and a bit of sugar and set the bowl next to Nerdanel. "Guard this with your life, my lady. It is a newborn and quite fragile."

As the mixture began to bubble, Glorfindel went for the flour and measured it into a bowl.
marriedanidiot: (working hard)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-12 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
She laughs. "That depends how much you are planning to make, no?" She smiles and giggles, accepting the bowl and starting the low Song of grain that the Yavannildi teach.

Glorfindel sighed happily at the sound. "Maybe you should make the next batch of Lembas bread. Mine was...an interesting experiment. Though Curufin seemed to think it was fine." He shook his head to let her know her son was just being nice.

He cut the butter into the flour for the butter block and then placed it in the refrigerator to chill. Getting out more flour, he mixed the rest of the dry ingredients in with it and set it aside on the counter. He pulled out the eggs and milk for the next bit. "How is our new friend doing?"
marriedanidiot: (mother)

[personal profile] marriedanidiot 2020-05-13 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
She laughs.

"A nis making lembas! How scandalized everyone would be. I suppose I should... I haven't had cause to make it in so long."

She smiles at the bowl of yeast. "They are coming along just fine!"

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-05-13 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know, right?" Glorfindel nodded with emphasis. "I don't know what I was even thinking to try." He laughed. "Though what I actually made was a nice pastry."

"If you wanted to make some Lembas, I certainly wouldn't say no." He was trying for nonchalant, but was aware of himself enough to know he probably sounded more like a small child asking his parent for a treat. "It might be good for missions?"

He mixed the eggs and other wet ingredients together and prefloured the counter, in preparation. "All right, I'm ready for them now!"
