Movie Night!

What: Sports anime movie night with popcorn!
Warnings: There shouldn't be! But I will add if anything comes up

POP, POPPOPPOP...

As announced by Romeo earlier that day, the cinema car has been prepared for a night of anime sports. There isn't much different at first glance, but by first whiff, those who recognise the smell of freshly popped popcorn may detect the new addition to the carriage before they see it set up on a table by the back wall.

There's a soft whirring with the faint pop, poppoppop of the corn kernels, which thankfully isn't that intrusive to the ears as most popcorn machines. Salt and sugar shakers sit next to bowls for people to take and dish out their own popcorn, as well as bottles of cinnamon and mixed (sweet) spice. Also, there's even paprika and hot chilli bottles right next to each other. Who put those there? Please shake sparingly. Or don't. It's your tastebuds on the line.

Jugs of juice from the kitchen have been set out with plastic cups for those looking for a drink, as well as a simple collection of chocolate chip cookies. There may or may not be enough for all, but probably not.

The entertainment won't start right away, so take this time to chat with one another!

BORN TO REVIEW

For this 'sports night', 4 episodes of an anime called Born To Blitz are being played, a comedy movie called Swing-It Like Seccam, and to finish it off, a sports-themed mystery of the beloved franchise Magical Detective Heartlines!

Born To Blitz is your standard sports highschool anime, but with a diverse extraterrestrial species and set on a 'coastal city' where all the buildings are domes. It's quick to lay out the story of its hero, Fax Qincan, who is trying out for the school's competitive blitzball team so that he can get a reputation and one day be a real blitzball professional. He gets a spot by the second episode (unfortunately, beating out his best friend for a place on the team), and now he must start his vigorous training before the school competitions start!

The live-action Swing-It Like Seccam is a similar deal, if less intense and offering more laughs! Follow Arla as she inspires to become a professional ping-pong player like her hero Seccam, but also as she has to deal with a disapproving family who don't take her dreams seriously. Touching towards the end, it can be confusing now and then due to a lot of pop culture references popular in Miyoon in the year 6k20nb.

And last but not least is Magical Detective Heartlines: Goal In Life, an anime movie of the beloved Heartlines as she solves her latest case in all her 80s style anime glory! Famous hoverball player--a sports played on hoverbikes that also bash around the animated balls into goals--Missie is being threatened to throw in their biggest game yet, or risk the life of their snatched beloved! It's up to Heartlines to find the culprit--but can she do it before the end of the match?

Of course she does, but not without suspense and the game being stretched out at the risk of Misse's life as well! And with a bop of a soundtrack, and plenty of glittery sequences. And let's not forget the magical girl transformation scenes. Romeo will show you the moves.

And with that, the Sports Night is over with, and what you do is ultimately up to you. Talk about the selection? Something else? Are you the sort of person who can't imagine leaving a mess, or are you rushing off with familiar faces?

Or maybe it'll be nice to go for a watch to stretch your legs, even get a drink. It's late, but the coffee and tea machines are what, only twenty-five carriages away, surely.

Just remember not to stay up too late! Got to avoid the void sickness.

( OOC: It's a fun little mingle! Have your characters bring their own food and snacks, cause some mischief, complain or be too loud. :) There will be small breaks between each showing and the blitz anime will be the same length as the movies altogether (so about 20 mins a piece).

"You think people are gonna want to have weapons just lying about the place when we've all watched someone get stabbed?"

She grabs another handful of popcorn as she exhales out her nose.

"Point is, we're pretty much a military unit here, whether we like it or not. When you've got a bunch of people who can kill other people living in the same place, you're asking for trouble if you don't run a tight ship."

He makes a grimace at the first point than any particular argument, taking a handful of popcorn himself now, but only slipping a few to chew on.

"I mean, sure, bring it up--there's no reason why not to talk about this stuff. But some people don't need a sword to kill someone, you know?"

He pauses, hoping he didn't say that too loudly with a glance around before taking a breath.

"But I think you're gonna need more than one or two people to get this going."

[nutkrusher]

"I hear you on that," Cassie says. "But that's no reason to make it easier. There'd be other benefits, too.

"I know at least one person who could volunteer for this. But what I really need to do is bring this up to a council member."

[blitzcheer]

"The council--and maybe the Team Leads?" He readies another piece of popcorn between his fingers. "If they will. But I think someone needs to think about the weapon side of things, and I don't think they have a lot to do right now."

He brings the piece up. "I think they just counts head during missions."

At least, that's what it sounded like with the guy he spoke to.

[nutkrusher]

"I think Glorfindel is one guy who might listen," Cassie says. "I threw his name into the council nominations."

[blitzcheer]

"Yeah?" Glorfindel? Tidus knows him, but not too well to pass any judgment. Nods anyway. "Hope he does well. I'm...still thinking about who I want to nominate. Weren't really thinking about it 'til five minutes ago."

[nutkrusher]

"Yeah," Cassie says. "He's like three thousand years old or some shit. And in case you somehow can't tell by looking at him, he's held a command before. There's no substitute for experience.

"And I know from my own experience he can be counted on."

[blitzcheer]

"Well if he can help put in more ideas for keeping people safe on and off the train, I'd be fine with him. Feel like there could've been more for supplying people before now."

If there weren't, but it didn't seem like it for what he knew, other than the worry about weaponry. But it was what it was, and he was bothered the train itself wasn't doing more with that.

But now, he really wasn't focusing on anything happening on the screen.

"For me it's more about getting an experienced general officer on board," Cassie says.

Her attention briefly turns back to the screen. The protagonist is having a heart-to-heart in the locker room with a troubled reserve player.

"Though personal skills are a plus, I guess."

[blitzcheer]

Huh. What was the background of the other council members on board? Tidus tries to think if he remembers--tries to remember faces, more like, while the action plays in front of his eyes from the big screen--but really, he barely knew anyone a part of that.

"You spoken to anyone on the council already? No harm trying sooner than later."

[nutkrusher]

"Last one I talked to was Seto Kaiba," Cassie says. "Specifically for the nominations. Before that...shit, maybe I should be spending a little less time in the gym."

[blitzcheer]

That gets a small snort out of Tidus. "I've only really talked to one of them lately. Spoke to Seto twice now, Nita... spoke to the boss too," and you can hear the semi-sarcastic stress, "during their last meet."

And well, while that went tremendous, it's been a while now. Enough for Tidus to change tracks.

"You should speak to Light-- Lightning," he repeats for the full nickname. "I told her about you, that you're military. We were talking about gear and what to get in for people, what's good. Said you'd be good to ask." And he looks away from the screen, glancing at her. "What do you think?"

[nutkrusher]

"I could give her some ideas," Cassie says. "Don't think we'll have a $700 billion defense budget behind us like I do back home, but we can talk about what's possible."

Then a long pause.

"What do you mean, 'the boss?'"

[blitzcheer]

"Tony Stark. I didn't know we had any leader either, but," and he takes a pause as he has to think about that himself, "I don't know if he's meant to be the train leader, but I guess he set up the council, maybe."

But then again, maybe he was supposed to be some kind of train leader. That's how he got confused about him before, didn't he? Ignis speaking about the train leader, and the confusion that brought up.

[nutkrusher]

"Oh, right, him," Cassie says. "I've heard of him. I'd been meaning to talk to him before my mom showed up which was...distracting."

She reaches for more popcorn.

"For a moment I thought you meant somebody'd figured out who was really in charge."

[blitzcheer]

He'd comment on that, but really, there's something way more important--

"Your mom?" Tidus looks at her, blinking. Needing a second to think to say, "How is she?"

[nutkrusher]

"She...wasn't in great shape when she got here," Cassie says.

She sighs. The popcorn remains in her hand.

"By which I mean if the train hadn't taken her she'd be dead. She was wounded in a battle two years into my future. She's able to move with crutches now, but...

[blitzcheer]

"Oh-" That gets Tidus to lean some on his chair arm towards her, the halfhearted pretence of appearing to follow the show discarded as concern washes over him.

"So she's recovering? Oh, man...!" His voice is still hushed, the astonishment coming through no less. What do you say to that? It's great, but... wow.

[nutkrusher]

"Yeah. Finding her on the platform was...um. Definitely a thing."

A long pause. She finally takes a bite of popcorn.

"But yeah, kinda threw me off train business for a little. Spent a lot more time around the infirmary until she was able to move around on her own."

[blitzcheer]

"She don't like chocolate or anything, does she?" he asks with a weak smile. "You can take her some of the popcorn. It's great she's okay though. Well...going to be okay."

Is okay, better than the alternative.

"If you ever want a catch up or...know what's up later, lemme know. Biggest thing is there'll be a mission soon."

[nutkrusher]

"Pretty sure 'alive' is the word you're looking for there, chief."

She manages a weak smirk.

"I can bring her some chocolate if you'd like to give her some. But yeah. I could hang out. Could plan a screening of Ninja Mime. You could bring your totally-not-girlfriend along."

Now her grin widens to proper Cassie proportions.

[blitzcheer]

Was that to get him to sputter, 'cause congrats Cassie, that's exactly what he does.

"I...!" And to forget about volume control, looking around and then pushing into his seat to shrink some. Pulling up his bowl of popcorn.

"...she is my girlfriend now..."

mumble mumble don't even look at him, he's not going to look at Cassie, he's shoving a mouthful of popcorn into his gob.

[nutkrusher]

Mission. Fucking. Accomplished. Cassie is positivelycackling as she watches Tidus squirm and sputter.

She's still grinning widely when she finally catches her breath.

"Well, good, because you sucked at keeping it a secret. Have I met her?"

[blitzcheer]

Just bury him right in this chair! Actually, he already is pretty buried. Goodbye, Voidtrecker Express--

Oh, he isn't actually dead. Too bad.

"Ugh, I dunno. Her name's Yuna? I'll introduce you two if we ever bump into you together..."

Which he sounds utterly hesitant to do, close to mumbling again at the end.

"She was with Purple last mission I know, don't know if you met there. She's got guns and magic."

[nutkrusher]

Cassie looks up for a moment as she tries to recall the days of fighting in dank, watery caves.

"I wanna say I might have? I don't think we introduced ourselves, though."
