Garden

As she so often is, Nerdanel can be found sitting in the garden, singing softly as she works on her sculptures. The first is now finished, standing no more than two hands tall, Maedhros looks up out of stone, almost as if he might speak at any moment. She works now on the second, but will not mind company.


Library

The library is new, and therefore interesting, and Nerdanel can be found at intervals browsing through the shelves curiously, flipping through books. Alternatively, she can also be found sketching - a bas relief is taking shape under her pencil - one of the train, by the looks of things. Feel free to interrupt her for a chat!

"That's true... it just makes it even more complicated. Sounds like you'd have to request a specific point or a specific era in order to not get too much."

"Yes, I'd agree." She nods. "It wouldn't do to accidently tell someone their future, I suppose... "

Although they rather have, amongst her kin. Not as if Fingon didn't know he was about to die when he arrived though.

He nodded. "That could certainly upset some. Especially if it is not information that someone would want to hear."

"The other concern would be... what if a villain learnt how they might be defeated, or something equally worrying?"

[gundamofthedesert]

"Oh, that's true as well. What if someone went home and remembered what they had read in the book. They could potentially change the whole history of the world."

[marriedanidiot]

"True..." She sighs. "I suppose it is probably not something we should risk, even for the knowledge that might be gained..."

The temptation would be terribly high, and even though there might well be memory loss on the return... what if there isn't.

"Yes, I suppose fiction is better in that respect. Even if it doesn't necessarily represent the world accurately, it might do less damage than someone being able to find out too much information."

"True." She sighs.

"Too dangerous to risk, I suppose. A pity, though - it would be a good way to learn about each other."

"It would have. I guess telling each other stories about our world will have to do. That way we can make sure we aren't telling it to someone who could use that information in a negative way."

[marriedanidiot]

"True." She smiles wryly. "This also means we will probably have to be careful how much we commit to paper of any tales we do tell, just in case. Broad strokes are probably fine, so long as details are left out."

He nodded. "I agree. Broad is better. Details means someone could trying to change something for the worse. There's just so much to think about when comes to people possibly being from different times."

Talking it through certainly helped to think about them.

"This is true." She nods.

"Well, at least we can still exchange tales this way!"

"Yes, at least we can do that. I'd like to hear about yours at some point."

Not that he knew much about her at the moment, but he'd still like to hear about her world.

"I am no historian, but any mother knows how to tell a tale or two." She laughs. "Whatever you would like to know, please feel free to ask."

He smiled. "I'm sure." He thought about that for a moment. "Is there something that everyone should know about from your world?"

[marriedanidiot]

"Hm."

She taps her chin thoughtfully.

"Well, I suppose, an important thing would be that there are many speaking peoples on my world, but that you should be very wary of those who would not normally wear flesh. Although there are none of the ainur on the train, thank goodness, and I certainly hope none will ever be drawn here!"

"Would not normally wear flesh? So there is some creature that is so distinctly inhuman in your world?"

[marriedanidiot]

"Oh yes. The Ainur are beings of spirit, and although they can, and will, clothe themselves in flesh to deal with us, they are very powerful, and not all of them are used to dealing with us Incarnates. Some of them are also actively hostile, and when you have a being who helped create the world being hostile..."

"...They sound quite dangerous. Especially if they are hostile to people. They are something good to know exist so that you can try to avoid them."

[marriedanidiot]

"They can be." She murmurs.

"Most mean well, truly. My father is on good terms with Aule Moutain-Maker, and I was raised playing at his feet. And my law-sister Earwen swims with Uinen of the Seas and Osse Storm-Bringer as do all the Royal House of Olwe. But those who Fell... well. Too many of my family have died at their hands."

"That's good at least that not all of them are so dangerous. So they have elemental powers?"

He's guessing based on their names.

[marriedanidiot]

"Say rather that they are the Powers." She nods. "They are the builders of the world, both sustained by it and sustaining it. We call Lord Aule the Mountain-maker, for indeed he built the mountains, but he is also the earth itself, as Lord Ulmo is the water and Lord Manwe the wind, and so on."

"Oh, I get! So they are elementals as I think some version of mythogoly would call them in my world. That makes sense and also definitely why they'd be so dangerous if they decided they wanted to be hostile."

[marriedanidiot]

"Even so." She smiles wryly. "In truth, only The Enemy and his servants are truly dangerous, for they hate us. But a storm may do harm without intending to."

There is a reason Osse is respected, but most avoid him.

He smiled. "Yes, I could see how the maker of storms would be considered dangerous in his own way. Especially if the storm and ocean met. It's good that there are only a few and not all of them who have a problem with others in your world."
