Welcome to the gym car. It's a large,if narrow space, and Kaiba and Noctis have hauled an ordinary card table and chairs inside. Not exactly the formula for an exciting spectator sport. But Yugi has entered the gym from the other side, all smiles, with something under his arm.

Something is about to roar to life here. And you'll be the first to witness it.

Yugi's Surprise / The Duel (closed to Yugi)

Yugi looks all too cheerful this evening. It has Kaiba suspicious. He walks over to his rival, arms folded.

"What?"

Yugi was just smiling as usual, he didn't think anything was suspicious at all. Except for the fact the smile hid something underneath it.

So hands behind his back he tilted his head slightly "What, Kaiba? I just thought it would be a better idea to have it in the gym. When we get there you'll understand why,"

"You think we'll get that big of a crowd? The newbies are still trying to settle in."

He reaches the doors, glances at the card table, and then back at Yugi. "...hm. Still empty."

Or is it? There's an odd glint of something...but he'll have to come closer.

Yes, but with less bouncing around and with more obvious recording-behavior; his screen for once doesn't have a face projected on it, allowing the webcam behind it to see properly.

"This is amazing," he declares, presumably preaching to the choir. The smile in his voice makes up for not displaying a proper face, at least somewhat.

Noct is mesmerized by everything, and when a voice speaks up, he nods. "It is. I've never played a card game like this before." He definitely wanted to learn how to play for himself.

Ple Two is just chillin' in a corner, seated with her legs crossed, watching with modest curiosity. The tech is interesting; it seems like a game of some measure of strategy.

As for the aesthetic it's... alright.

Someone show her Machina decks though and you might have her. "They're certainly enthusiastic."

Come congratulate Yugi on another stunning victory! Or start on building your own deck. The card table's at the end of the car for deckbuilding, the briefcase atop it. They'll both be here to help you out (even if somewhat reluctantly on sulking Kaiba's part).

But she's looking through the cards, trying to figure out if she even has an underlying strategy when it comes to this game.

Advice would be appreciated, as would talking to her in general.

She'd wave the two teens of the hour over with a smile if they happened to stop by, too.

Kaiba was as deflated as usual after such a public loss, but he'd promised to stay and help. He glanced at her spread of cards.

"Where are you thinking of starting? Is there a monster who calls to you?"

Yugi had been more in the background, waiting to see if there was anyone that needed help. However after a short amount of time, Yugi simply went around and check how everyone was getting on.

"So how are you getting on so far? I saw Kaiba spoke to you before, so you must have been given some good tips."

"That was...very interesting. The creatures were able to interact with each other, but were not actually real?" Glorfindel had thought learning a new card game sounded like fun. It had been centuries since he'd had the time to engage in social games like these.

"I take it that the game is not usually quite that flashy?"

"Before Kaiba invented the virtual technology it was usually played on table tops" He knew that Atem was the reason behind it after playing a Shadow game with the other, but the full understanding wasn't there.

"But where we are from duels are usually done with the Duel Disk." He held his up to show him. "But here table tops are going to be the norm until we can find a way to get more duel disk."

"That's all my work," Kaiba agrees, a small glimmer of pride in his expression. Even as glum as he is about the loss, he can admit that.

"They're semi-solid holograms. You can touch them, but they're not quite real. Watch this."

He reactivates his disk in demo mode, reaches into the briefcase, and summons Mokey Mokey. The cubic angel thing floats in the air, looking on questioningly. Touching it feels...like reaching through a wall of air. It's hot.

The gaming car is practically a second home for Daia at this point, so imagine his delight when he sees something brand new happening - watching Kaiba and Yugi battle with holographic monsters.

At first, he's terrified with the large monsters appearing from nowhere, jumping back when attacks go off. But as he realises it's more and more harmless, he begins to enjoy and is cheering for Kaiba as loud as he possibly can, arms waving and being hyper.

Inevitably, Daia lets out a disappointed, "Awe..." when it isn't Kaiba who wins. But he still tries to rush to Kaiba when he gets a chance, moving to throw his arms around the man.

"Kaiba, Kaiba! Teach meeeeeeeeee~!"

"Daia...?!"

Kaiba staggers back, a little caught off guard. He honestly couldn't remember how long it had been since anyone had hugged him. Mokuba was outgrowing that by now, and it wasn't as if he'd ever allowed anyone else that close to him.

But it eases the sting a little, as much as he'll never admit it. He isn't quite feeling up to hugging back yet, but he leans in with a whispered 'thanks' and pat on the back. Cough cough. Awkward.

"Any interest in running a vampire deck? Or would you rather go for more a more traditional monster?"

"That was so exciting, especially the part where the dragons battled each other! Oh, and I can play this game? Can I summon fighters like me to battle? What're the rules? Oh, but you use cards too? That sounds fun, I and the other Slayers played card games at times! But not with cards like those. What's the meaning of those numbers? What..."

If someone doesn't stop her, Merciless's just going to gush on forever and ever.

Yugi couldn't help but chuckle. It was nice to see someone like this. It sort of reminded him of him whenever there was a new game to try. How excited he could get at the time.

So he figured he should be the one to at least attempt to teach her. "I will be happy to help you, but one question at a time okay?"

See, the problem with bringing the cards to life... is that some passengers have only a tenuous grip on reality as is. SXT-2 has wandered into the Gym Car too, since she’s bored out of her mind and Kaiba is a guy she has a good impression of, but she’s watching the fireworks with far less enthusiasm than Webmind. But she’s always been good at nodding and smiling politely, so maybe no one notices.

Afterward, she drifts over to where the professional duelists are helping people with their cards. “Excuse me, a question- the duel disks are considered electronic devices, is that correct?”

"They are," Kaiba adds. "The card reading and projections are done by microcomputers, with all known cards, their monster animations, rules of play, and effect interactions programmed in by me."

He checks on the disk, still in cooldown mode. "Like Yugi's said, if we can get enough points once essential needs are taken care of, we can bring in more disks for others."

Either or both is fine!

"That, Eva starts, stars in her eyes as she practically bounces up to the duelists. "was awesome. Is this kind of tech common in your world? Also, I don't suppose I can get one of those Blue Eyes in my deck?"

She's joking, mostly. She knows how much they mean to Kaiba, but.

Look. She has to ask.

"It's all my invention. It's spread throughout the world by now. And absolutely not on the Blue Eyes. They're the only three in existence. But I can let you see her one more time."

There's a little flinch of guilt as he says 'three'. The fourth had belonged to Yugi's grandfather, and he'd destroyed it at the peak of his soulless evil.

He summons a Blue Eyes in demo mode and she cranes her neck down to look at Eva curiously.

"Before Kaiba invented it, stuff like this wasn't as common. Though also before these they were boxes and weren't moveable. it's really changed a lot since the first one."

He can remember those boxes well in Duelist Kingdom. Set up in ways so one could use the placement to their advantage depending on the field they were on. Later on, that just turned into a new kind of card.

At the mention of the Blue Eyes Yugi had looked over briefly "Sadly, Kaiba has the only ones in existence." Though he knew that was both true and a lie, mostly because the last one no longer really existed or could be played anyway.

Kaito watches, rapt, and whistles lowly.

"Very nice. Definitely not tech we have in my world."

"The shining jewel of my life's work thus far," Kaiba answers with pride. "With them here, I'm hoping to reprogram them for more practical applications on missions. Some well-placed illusions could turn the tide in a tough situation."
